Default Fork lock question

I have a 05 RK/custom it has beach bars, [this might have something to do with my problem] I've tried to lock the front forks, no luck, i turn the bars all the way to the left, incert key, but lock will not turn, this bike has 1300 miles on it, and has been really taken care of, I cannot even turn the key a little. Plus, the key looks to me, like it's not going all the way in the lock and is held up by the lock cover, any ideas? thanks

The fork may have to be in JUST the right position before it will lock. I had one that I had to keep pulling on the handlebars to position the forks before it would lock. Try WD-40 and alittle fenagling and see if you have any better results. Good luck!

You will probably have to replace it. The small needles in the lock have been pushed out of alignment and when that happens it almost always takes a replacement. I neveruse mine for that reason. Even when set a hard whack to the right will break the pins so it isnt much security. If you have the HD security system that is enough. Ask your dealer to replace it under good will if the bike is out of warranty. They can do thatsometimes at no cost to you assuming you are a good customer who has taken care of the bike and the problem is one that should not have happened. That is the case here. It should not have happened.

Before you go off replacing it, I assume it does not have a cover. I would first try to get a compressor and see if perhaps there was sand or something blown into it. That would prevent you from using it. Just a thought, but will cost you nothing. Also, once you get it working, either by replacing or, hopefully, blowing out any junk, get a cover for it. The hd security system is http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_USand costs $289.95. There is another product http://digitalguarddawg.com/that sell for $149.00. Both work as a hands free, walk up with transmitter and ride, function.

I beleive you said it had a cover on it, some of the after market covers would not let the key go down as you said, have to grind down the key or replace the cover, some guys just get a spare key without the plastic on it and grind it to fit!!
