Is HD the best way to go? Seen some knockoffs on eBay and Amazon but haven’t seen the best reviews.

As far as HD is the adjustable with the cable the only way to go? I know they sell the other one that’s like $50 vs the $220 for the adjustable. Didn’t know if there was enough adjustments on the $50 to satisfy or if I’m wasting my money. Been watching the classified section also.

I dont care for the cheap Harley backrest, and the adjustable one did not work for me. It is very thick and pushed me too far forward. The family jewels were resting on the seat tongue of My Glide. Very uncomfortable. I went to the Mustang backrest, and am very happy. It too is adjustable, just not with a cable as HD's is (whose plastic mount breaks, or the little piston stops working). The Mustang backrest will fit HD seats. Give it a serious look.

I'm happy with the HD adjustable backrest. There is a spring that does tip it full forward until there is some pressure on it. But putting some pressure on it pushes back to riding position. Where it stops when you push it back is the "adjustable" part. I'm not sure why they added a spring to push it forward without weight. Seems like a spring to hold it back would have made more sense. But there are a lot of comments on here complaining about cheap backrests. The HD one seems very sturdy. I weigh about 270 and have put about 25K miles on it so far with no issues.

+1 on the Harley Adjustable, I've had them on all my bikes and find it very comfortable. Best part is you can change adjustment on the fly on those long riding days.

I like the H-D adjustable, as I like to change positions on the fly during long trips. A buddy had the cheaper H-D backrest and didn't like it much. He now has a Grasshopper backrest and is happy...and it's priced pretty good.

The kuryakyn touring backrest is very adjustable and can sit you well back. Others make you sit too forward typically. I'm 6'2". Roadglide.

I have the HD adjustable back rest and have been toying around with bending it back an inch or so. It pushes my back fat a bit forward.

I find I do a "set and forget" on it. As far back as it will go. But that's just me.

I have the cheaper HD one and it works fine but is a pain to put on. Have to find the hole and then get both brackets in.

Default Had both

I had the HD adjustable backrest on my 09 and once I found my sweet spot, I never changed it again. So on my 15 Limited, I bought the cheaper one and I can position it up or down along three holes, plus it has a screw to adjust it forward or aft but not by much. Again, I tend to set it and forget it.
