Odometer reset button question
Option 2 - Search Harley Reset ECM in Google.
First, are there any codes? (apparently you have the Owners Manual and Service Manual. How to check for codes is in the Owners Manual do you have the Electric Service Manual? )
Best for us to know a few things, like
Any add ons?
Have any lights been changed?
Do you have a HFSM? (that is a TSSM (Turn Signal Security Module) without buttons (Hands Free Security Module.)
Have there been any problems (AFAYK) with the wiring or lights?
VERY IMPORTANT if you have the HFSM
Was the battery disconnected for any period of time, or was the Digital Technician used to diagnose anything?
First:
I do not know if the switch was a problem or not, but changing it seems to have corrected your initial problem. Now you say it says r for remaining fuel. Have you ridden the bike since?
It will show that r anytime the computer looses power (or signal from the TSM/HFSM) until you ride it for some miles and/or re-fill the tank.
Second (if you have done above):
If you have a TSSM/HFSM, and there has been an extended loss of power (time relative) or the Digital Technician has been used on it, or it has been replaced, you need to reset it.
BTW, do not bother Googling it, looking for it in the Service Manual, or the Electrical Service Manual, although it is in the latter it is buried deep and difficult to find.
Try the reset for the TSSM/HFSM:
First, disconnect the battery fuse for at least 10 minutes (not in manual)
reconnect fuse, put IGNITION switch in the off position, the RUN switch in the off position.
From the off position, turn the IGNITION switch
ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON
hit the left turn signal twice
(you should see the signals blink)
Turn the IGNITION switch off
Within 10 seconds, repeat the above procedures once more.
After repeating, wait at least 20-30 seconds before touching or checking anything.
That should reset the TSSM/HFSM on your 2009 touring bike.
(You may have to reset the Security Code afterward.)
Hope this helps.
