Default Newbie here! What HD to get??

Hi Folks,

Newbie here. Just joined. Been riding bikes since I was 14 (now 40). Rode all kinds except cruisers, tourers (and Harleys of course) including sports bikes (super sports, liters, Ducatis) , dirt bikes, and standards. Currently have a Ducati HyperMotard.

After looking and admiring for long the HD bug bit me and finally decided to test ride a few and make a purchase soon. Test rode a 2018 Road King at the local HD dealership with 5k miles (listed at $16.9k before taxes and fees) and 2020 Softail Slim. Both with 107 engines. Liked the Road King better even though heavier. The softail was tuned for more low down acceleration and is lighter and easier to handle but does not do anything more for me than my Hypermotard. But the Road King oh boy oh boy, the ride is smooth and the comfort that I never felt on my sportbikes which were always looking to squeeze the poop back inside me . I like the way it rode and handled and everything in general. Although I won't be doing any longish trip this summer but might go touring later. This bike seems to tick all the boxes for me right now. I want a big comfortable cruiser but not so big that its a pain to ride around town.

What do you suggest, get the 2018 Road King Standard with 5k miles for $16.9 (around $19.5 OTD) or there is a 2007 HD Road king for $6999 with 25k miles (see below):

I recommend the Road King. Been on one for 13 years. No issues. Reliable and comfortable. The spoke wheels usually have a tube. Sport wheels are tubeless. If you get a flat, TIRE FLAT only works on tubeless. The saddle bags allow for extended rides and errands or short rides around the city. Shocks are air adjustable. I did change out the exhaust to RINEHARTS. Make sure you like the stock handlebars. Most guys replace the bars for higher ones with a little more pull back. Prior to buying, you could ask for a change in bars. Some RK's may have the heel/toe shifter. They are great once you get use them. Get a windshield leather bag. Real handy for the cellphone.

Welcome to the forum. These giuys have a lot intell and insights.

If you can swing it, I'd say go with the 18, lot of improvements over the 07.What is that bike, by the way, some sort of Army edition? Never seen one like it before.

Get the '18 King. I love I can pull the windshield off my '17 King and ride local knock-around trips as well as pull long road trips with the shield on. I also have a quick detach tour pack I use as well.

Welcome and enjoy.
