I'm not-so-patiently waiting for delivery of my 08 Ultra Annaversary edition. It was suppose to ship about a week ago, but I've heard of the delays and expect a couple more weeks at least. It would have been nice if the MoCo would have at least updated the ship date on their dealers web page just so a customer could know if it is delayed or not. My dealer said the web site showed it shipped last Thursday, but there was no VIN number associated with the bike, so that probably means it didn't. Getting anxious here because winter is real close and I would like a chance to ride at least a little before it has to go into winter storage. Would like to get the first 1,000 on it so I can decide if I want a stage 1, SERT, and pipes done over the winter.....but what can I do but wait and and hope....foreplay is fine for awhile, but after awhile it starts to hurt. :>
We just got back from Fall Rally in Myrtle Beach. This was my first road trip since having the Stage 2 Big Bore kit installed. The trip was 556 miles round trip. The bike is totally smooth on the highwayand now has plenty of power to pass with or without a down shift! I am running with just a download while waiting on Harley to release the SERT. After this trip, Ihave almost 1000 miles on the rebuild and will have the SERT added and the bike dyno tuned when I haveit serviced. All total, I have just over 3000 miles on the bike and I like it more every time I ride it.
I have added a 10 inch Harley windshield along with theair deflector on the bottom of the steering neck. Between 60 and70 mph, I still get a little buffeting on thevery top of my helmet. Anything over 80mph is smooth as glass.
As for handling, we rode in the rain from Conway to Myrtle Beach at 80mph most of the way and the bike handled the wet roadsgreat. I do not condone speeding, but riding behind SUVs pulling trailerson wet roads is not my cup of tea either. We were just running ahead of the traffic so we could see.
After 5000 miles, my '08 Xglide continues to run great. Made several adjustments to it to improve comfort and practibility.
Extended floorbords out 1"
Changed air temp guage to oil temp
Added XM radio
Added passing lamps
Added headlight modulator
Stage I with SERT
SE slip-ons (after trying 3 others)
I'm not much into speed anymore but wish the 96" had a little more torq. Perhaps a cam change. If I can get away with cams and avoid the cost of103" I will look into new paint.
All-in-all, a great bike. I've had 6 Harleys since 1977 and this bike is by far the most fun to ride.
I dont have as many miles logged on mine as some of you guys but going from an 06 road king to the 08 ultra no complaints. It seems no matter what I ride after 75 to 100 miles my fat a** gets tired.Smooth,Throttle response is good, heat not as bad as I was led to believe and this weekend still around 90 here.Noise , yes a little whine in 5th but being old and partially deaf helps with that. What else can I say IT'S GREAT if I had wanted quiet and water cooled I'D have kept my Honda.I haven't got to try the abs but the brembo brakes are smooth. So far its just a great bike.
All i want to know is that i am going to be alright with just running 2.0 Rush slipons (which i have now) with no other mods. I have sent out a few PMs to get a few answers. I have been reading all the other post and other web sites for a few days now (and at 10 to 12 hours a day reading for the past 6 days) and i am still either a little confused or brain dead. Atleast i am getting paid to do this or should i say while i do this. I am stuck on a boat with nothing else to do but count days. My job sucks but anyway i just wanted some direct opinions on being ok and that others are doing the same cause the only thing i found was the sert at $450 and $75 install with a recomended dyno. My wife would ****. Dealer seemed happy though. Man, i just want some noise without doing damage to the bike. I need your imput. thanks.
I went from an '05 Electra Glide Classic to an '08 Anniversary Ultra Classic and I love it. I have about 1300 miles on her and I am looking forward to riding down to Daytona next week. I did have the heat issue but a set of RJS Originals eliminated that and replacing the stock windshield with a 9 1/2" Clearview Recurve opened up my vision from that stock windhield, but kept it nice and quiet. The ride is smooth, the transmission is solid with no noise and the stereo is about a million times better than the old one. I really like the adjustable air deflectors as well.
Next up for mods is a speaker upgrade to J&M - probably get that done while in Daytona. After the first of the year, I am having Doc in Orlando put a set of mild cams in her, a Stage I with K&N, Fat Cat with quiet baffle, a SERT and tune it on the dyno. I figure then she will be perfect.
I forgot to mention that those Brembo anti-lock brakes are incredible. I have to adjust back and forth between riding my Springer and the Ultra or else I either won't get stopped on the Springer or I'll throw my wife over my shoulder on the Ultra.
