08 Owners - How about some feedback
Put about 100 miles on it between last night and today, weather not cooperating much. I love it!
Honda goldwings might be smooth, but trouble free they are not, honda has had more recalls on that model than all their other models combined. Next time youre bored do some reading on goldwing problems in the honda forums. Be sure you have a lot of time
We're not talking here about what breaks, and what doesn't. We all know anything mechanical can break, including the dreaded Hondas. But, I'm here to tell you, if you ride a Goldwing, something breaking somewhere out in the boonies is very, very far from your mind. It's that simple. Sure, Goldwings have been through service bulletins, same as all the other brands. And, the frame re-weld recall was unexpected, and not a happy process. But I've passed all that with my '04 'Wing now, on my 3rd set of tires, 24K miles, and it just runs like a top. Oil/filter changes (oil out of only ONE hole, thankyou very much), and it just keeps on keepin' on. Period. None of your "Goldwing problems"....they just don't happen. So much for that little bit of misinformation.
Now. The really big news is, are you ready for this, at 1,280 miles (yes, folks, I didn't even reach 2,000 miles on the odo) my '08 Ultra Classic bit the dust today on a ride. Pulled into a place to park, idle would not go below 1,300 rpm, and then I found out I had virtually NO throttle response. Closed to full open gave me only another few hundred rpms. It's broken, and I suspect the electronic throttle. I limped home on the road shoulders, unable to achieve more than 40mph on level ground, 20 on hills, and Monday, I'll have someone come to my home and pick the blasted new Harley up and cart it to the dealer for them to grapple with. And, guess what I'll be riding tommorrow, and beyond, while the dealer tries to figure out what's wrong with the Harley, and while I wait for whatever parts they need to get it running again?
It'll be my trouble-free GL1800, of course. Now you know, the REST of the story.
The same non-existant problem that has caused their front tires to wear unevenly.....Hardly a problem free bike. Problems not yet solved or addressed by Honda.
However, please let us know what you find out about your '08 Harley problem. Lot's of questions about the throttle by wire.
That sucks, my 08 has been humming along without a hitch. Why didn't you call roadside assistance? You got it with your HOG. Hope you get it back quickly.

24,000 on an 1800 Wing? Better save up your dimes to rebuild the front forks. Read the last few issues of MCNews......there's a reason for the infamous GW wobble when slowing down. ...The same non-existant problem that has caused their front tires to wear unevenly.....
