Side Stand
When I get it fully extended it stays in place but when I am trying to fully extend it that is the problem it wants to flip back up. You try to extend it and it keeps coming back up. I keep pushing it and it finally stays down in the locked position.
The spring end connector points at designed that once you get the Jiffy stand down far enough, the spring will cam over/start to get shorter to hold the jiffy stand down.
As you lean the bike over, the top end and I bracket will lock into the U channel to hold the stand out (so if the bike rolls forward, jiffy stand is not going to come back up.
So my guess, is your not getting the jiffy stand down far enough to the cam over point so the spring pulls it the rest of the way forward, and why the stand is coming back up.

To add, if your jiffy stand is not coming back up with good spring tension, or cam over point is not strong to pull the jiffy stand the last of the way forward, then go spend the $8 at a HD to get a new spring. Hence the asian jiffy springs on ebay and other sellers, are complete *****, and don't last for more than a few weeks before they lose there spring tension.
To replace the spring, remove the top bolt and plate, and cam the jiffy spring past it normal forward to remove the tension on the spring. Pull the jiffy stand and down out of the channel, and clean the old grease off both the jiffy stand and Channel is rides in, apply new fresh grease, then install the new spring by again, Jiffy stand pivot forward of it normal out/down point, then swing the stand back to install the top plate, and install the nut to about 25ft torque.
Also, not sure what jiffy stand bumper you have on your bike, but on the older bikes, will have the below type that in on the bottom of the frame that loves to catch on the lift and rotate upwards as you are lifting the bike. So on these type after you pull the bike off the lift, double check the jiffy bumper to make sure that the jiffy stand is tagging it about the center mark, and it not, then rotate the bumper down so it does take the stand about middle point of it.

New or used bike....???
As mentioned above, the spring will bring and hold the jiffy stand up against the primary, but you shouldn't have to fight it to get it down... a bad spring will usually be loose and not hold the jiffy stand up against the primary case... not snap back up when you are trying to deploy it...
If it's a used bike purchase, the prior owner could have messed up the spring connection during jiffy stand maintenance...
I bought a used 2001 FXSTS... the jiffy stand "snapped" up into the riding position with quite a strong snap to it.... I would have to fight it, to go to the point where I could rest the bike on it... something was clearly wrong...
When I inspected it, and luckily have another softail to compare it to... I found the spring was attached to the jiffy stand leg, and to the WRONG SPOT on the jiffy stand bracket... That was causing it to stretch too far and be too strong....
I moved the spring to the proper mounting position and it's worked flawlessly since... The improper mounting didn't even damage or over stretch the spring...
Anyways... worth checking if you don't know the bike's entire service/repair history...

You have short legs like me.
Happens to me all the time on my Street Glide.
Just give it a little extra hard kick when you extend it.
