Cool, thanks. I will do what I feel is right / good for my bike anyways, but I was just wondering what ya'll do? For me, Redline in every hole! 20W50 syn - oil, MTL - primary & HD (heavy duty) shock-proof gear lube - tranny. All done, every 3500-5000 miles. Cheap insurance!

I may change the tranny interval to 20k if I don't like the looks of the fluid (85w140 gear oil) after 20k, but it shouldn't need changing more often than the manual recommends. Primary just looks too grungy at 5k not to change it at that time, and since I use cheap fossil oil there it isn't wasting money. Good synthetic will do fine for 5k or even longer in a Harley engine, if your oil warms up to operating temperature often--i.e., few short trips.

I change the Primary and Tranny together at 10k however. I just can't bring myself to leave my tranny alone for 20k miles.
I tend to think that way, too, but when you think about your car's manual tranny, how often do you change that fluid? My last car didn't even have a drain plug on the transaxle and had no change interval. My newer one has a drain plug but still no scheduled change interval, although I do change it every few years. I also have a 1966 Corvette with an M21 4-speed, and it has no drain plug, nor is there a schudule change interval. Same for the rear axle, which also uses gear oil. For this reason, I think we're safe going 20k.
