Here's a link to hear the Rush 1.75's. Sound good but maybe too loud? Or maybe my subwoofer is turned up too high! Guess I'll find out soon, mine are coming next week!

I.am running the S&S stainless ovals and very happy with them.
Not nearly as loud some of the SE pipes. If possible you should hear
the mufflers before buying.

I cut open my stock mufflers off my 07 EG... the left muffler is a dummy has a very small outlet, the right hand muffler has a BIG one...I think if you ran stock mufflers with true duals for very long you might damage your engine. IMOA
Yeah I figured as much, as the sound is completely different from one side to the other. I won't leave it like this, it sounds like crap, I'm leaning towards the Rush, slash up with a 2" baffle, and go from there.
The fact that the L/R mufflers are different crossed my mind before I even got all the way through the thread-opening post. It's not that the left one is a dummy, it's just different. It doesn't load down a shop vac blowing through it any more than the right one does but I'm sure the engine would see the difference big time. With dual exhaust pipes I'd bet it would run like crap (did you say that it does already?).

I just got back from town after riding about 10 miles down the highway. My ears are just the slightest bit numb from my Rush 2.0s on the stock piping. It sure is a deep rumble.

Just keep in mind that the duals will make quiet pipes noisey.
I agree. I am thinking about going back to a cross over with my D&D Police Interceptor Slip-Ons.

I put V&H duals on my '06 king custom and added V&H ovals with a V&H fuel pak. Runs good, sounds good. Not offensively loud. But you're talking about something very subjective. One man's treasure is another's trash sort of thing. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks for the ideas, the bike still runs good, just sounds like crap, and odly, it seems the left side is louder. As I was mounting the headers I thought of the possiblity that the muffs were different, andapparently they are. I don't mind some noise, I just don't want it to be as loud as the Rhinehardts I've heard. I'm thinking Rush with 1.75 or maybe 2" baffles, I can always change the baffle to a smaller one.

Question have you tuned the bike since the change? I noticed that after install before new map my pipes sounded very diffrent the thing that makes me think maybe this is some of your problem is the diffrence in sound from your pipes left to right. However if you have and are not happy You should look at some ovals V&H or S&S seem to be a good deep sounding set up from the ones Ive herd.

You're correct that the tune will have a bearing on the sound but the left and right stock mufflers are completely different critters from one another. It's almost like the left one is more of a resonating chamber than a muffler as we normally think of them.

I think the older SE slip ons were louder than the new ones. Depends on which SEs your father has.

ORIGINAL: Flyboy

Ok, so I have an 07 SG, I wanted to go true dual, but not get too loud. So I figured I'd try the Vance and Hines headers, and use the stock muffs, hoping to gain a little sound with a nicer looking setup.

Well....it sounds like $%^%$#$%^.! So I need to get some slipons. I don't mind a bit of noise, but I don't want it to be as loud as say Rhinehardts. I like the look of a slashup, like the Road Glide. Was thinking maybe Rush with 1.75 baffles...will it be too loud, or maybe the Peacemakers?

My Father inlaw has an 06 Ultra with the same headers, with SE slipons, and they are too loud for my liking.

Suggestions?

I was surprised that the V&H ovals became louder with the addition of the V&Hdresser duals. They aren't too loud, but they are at the upper end of the noise level I was looking for. (I know, its subjective) I do like the sound of the duals better than the crossover pipe.
