I know you guys have been over this and over this, however, I am new to the forum, and have a couple of questions.
My HK radio, is a piece of crap in my '06 EG, and I have been seeing posts about a "Sony" deck with biketronics on it. First, what is biketronics? Where can this be bought? And is the Sony deck made for inclimate weather? Whats the expected cost of this unit?
Biketronicshas a device that will allow you to install a Sony radio and still keep the use of the factory handlebar controls. They work great and the install is pretty quick and easy.
Turn your radio on and select FM mode. 2. Turn the ignition key switch to OFF. 3. Press and hold any two soft keys (the numbered buttons on the face of your radio, see Figure 1) and then turn the ignition key switch to ACCESS.
4. Continue to press the soft keys until "Diag Test" is displayed in the middle of the screen (see Figure 2). 5. Press soft key 4, labeled "Software." The software version number is listed twice and is preceded by the letter âv,â such as âv7.4.0.â If this number is lower than 8.19.0, you should proceed with the software update.
This is from HD website. I have heard there are problems with 8.19 and many have went back to the version before that . There is a link floating around here with that version s/w
This guy has a nice set up for $500 on ebay and has nothing but praise. This is the direction I am going once I get the honey due list down to where a brother can have a cold beer without feeling guilty!http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/creativebikes2/
I just picked my bike up from having the dealer replace the radio. The display kept going in and out. If you do a search on the forum there is a link to the site that has the update on it with specific directions for doing it. You will have to download the update to your computer then burn it to a disc then put disc in radio and do the upgade. I will also try to find the link for you and post here.
Wouldn't buy a new radio until you confirm the one you have is junk. It's under warranty. Stop by the dealership & ask if the have thew CD to update the software. It's a fair bet they do. Let them update the software and establish with them that you have a problem. If the update doesn't work they'll get you a reman, which may, or may not work. But if is doesn't they'll get you another.
I'm on radio number four and this one works fine.... Two of them were remans. I called Harley and argued that since two remans had failed they should send me a new radio. They agreed and the fourth radio was new.
There are audiophiles on this website that wouldn't settle for anything less than perfect sound. I put a set of better speakers on mine & it works fine.. Can't hear all the highs & lows with the bike running anyway.
