I have a 2019 Road Glide Special with the new BoomBox infotainment system. I understand to get Apple CarPlay to work you need to buy the WIM, but this morning as I was getting ready to hop on the bike to ride to work, I plugged my phone in and Apple CarPlay came up on the BoomBox. Not sure how it all of a sudden started working as I do not have the WIM. So I rode to work and stopped at a gas station on the way, turned off the bike and when I turned it back on to leave, CarPlay was no longer there. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way I can get it to work every time without the WIM?
I may be wrong but I think carplay will work without the WHIM, as evidenced by what you experienced.
Your 2019 may have already been set up by your dealer that way.
As for The carplay working then not, others on here have had to plug and unplug. When u stopped at the gas station ur phone was still plugged in when u started bike I assume.?
Do the same order that u did in the morning and u may get carplay going again. In other words, start bike, then plug phone in.
I often will get a note on my phone that I have to unlock it to allow it to connect to carplay as well on my 19. That's just my normal now, unlock the phone, plug it in and throw it in the glove box. I had whim enabled and mic disabled at the shop when i bought my bike. No whim installed.

it isn't supposed to, unless, you have the din connection for a wired headset. then if you have the headset plugged in, you should get CarPlay.
You definitely do not need a WHIM for CarPlay to work. However, your Boombox GTS has to be flashed to think a WHIM is installed. Even after that, you stl have to either have a wired headset plugged in to the 7 PIN DIN - HD calls this the 'Music & Communication Kit' or you have to have the Apple CarPlay microphone requirement disabled. Disabling the requirement for an Apple CarPlay microphone has to be done by the dealer by connecting it to Digital Technician. A lot of people are saying that dealerships can no longer do this because H-D removed the option from Digital Technician because if was a violation of the Apple CarPlay agreement. In a different post I read, someone mentioned that there is another software application, I have forgotten the name, used by independent repair shops that still has the option to disable the CarPlay microphone requirement.
My Ultra Limited 2019 works like a charm with my iPhone connected by the cable (the dealer enabled CarPlay to work with the cable in my Boombox).
I also installed a 3mts cable from the batwing to the tourpak and I keep my phone there.
Best thing I did!
