The touring guy/gal wins every single time. I have broken down along the road once (in my car and never my bike) and it was a horrible feeling. All I wanted was to get back on the road and get moving again.

Empathy should never be a 4-letter word.

Is this Mayberry with only Goober and Gomer runnin the garage. I drop it off and have them call me when its done. I would not plan a service if I have plans to ride right after. Plan ahead for the things you can. Don't worry about the things you can't plan.

Give the traveller priority. It sucks either way though.

Worse yet was we scheduled maintenance on a cage a while back with an appointment. It took them 3 days before they were able to even look at the car. Talk about pissed! [:@]This was at a major Pontiac/GMC dealership too.

Last year 4 of us left Nebraska for a 10 day road trip to Colorado, Wyoming and Montana and finally to Sturgis. We are in Yellowstone Park when one of the guys on an 06 Ultra starts having voltage problems. We have an experienced wrench with us a thinks it could be the stator and it needs fixed asap if it is the problem. Cody WY dealership only has 1 tech and has the next 2 days off. Off we go to Billings MT. We get to the dealership in Billings just before they close for the day. The service manager tells him they do not put travlers in front of secheduled costumers, you need an appointment. Our appointment is the next day for midafternoon. Next morning we find an independent shop and go there. Service tech comes right out to the bike pulls the seat off and confirms there is not a problem with the stator or any other electrical problems. The guy spent less than 15 minutes checking out the problem and charged us nothing. The tech was a exemployee of the local dealership and knew that voltage meters are not accurate and usually read higher than the normal operating range. Why couldn't the dealership done that the daybefore?

One of HD's guidelines is to give priority service to travelers. Meaning this - say you have an 8:30 app't to get an oil change. A traveler breaks down and needs, say, a new stator (2-3 hour job).

That is a pretty f***ed up comment right there. Believe it or not there are some people who ride that don't have a place to wrench their own bikes. Even for an oil change. Ones who live in apartments that don't allow any kind of vehicle maintence for example. And they might not know anyone where they live who has a place for them to do it. I'm sure there are other reasons people don't do their own service. That's no reason to judge them. Last time I checked you don't have to turn a single nut ot bolt on your bike to own one. Harley or Wing.

At any rate I've got no problem waiting on my service, whatever it may be, to help a traveling rider get back on the road quicker.

No brainer. Priority goes to the guy on the road and maybe I could buy him a cup of coffe, too.... BTW, good management does not mean that you have techs standing around to handle unexpected jobs. The ideal situation is to have all of your people busy and working all day long with just enough labor left over to handle the average overrun without having to work OT.

I have never heard of exact time appointments and have used several dealerships in different states over the years. I drop my bike off and pick it up when it is done.

With that being said, the traveler should always have priority. Being out on the road and breaking down sucks. It is more than just an inconvenience.

Dude - ah'll bet that ya don't have very many friends with the cr**y 'tude of yers. The man presented several valid reasons why folks might take their scoots in fer an oil change, an' ya come back with THAT?!?? Frankly, ya need ta either grow up or go back an' have yer momma teach ya sum better manners.

Ah change mah own oil - do mah own wrenchin' - but ah'm not gonna bust on someone who chooses not to - it's their money. Ah might tease 'em 'bout it, but ah'm dang sure not gonna climb in their face - ah wuz taught better.
