in me this weekend. I normally am an anti-bagger type. But I really, really loved the look of the Road King. That is just one mean looking bike.
Three questions:

1. Are the hardbags easy to remove if you want to ride without them? Any pics of bikes without them?

2. Are the hardbags replaceable with leather bags a la the RK Custom bags? Not that I hate the hard bags, but I really like the leather ones!

3. Is the stock windshield a quick detach model?

I don't plan on buying a RK right away, but I need to be able to dream about it properly . . .lol

1. Yes, simple to remove with 2 pins on each bag. While there is a company out there that sells a package to pretty up the touring bikes with bag removed, I think all tourers look horrible without the bags. Tons of exposed hardware. They are not like Softails and clean under the bags.

2. Yes.

3. Yes.

All the above is correct, but I'd like to add - my 01 RK doesn't look too bad with the bags off...almost looks likea deluxe. I keep telling myself one of these days I'm gonna go ride around town with the bags off - just to see what people say/think...HOWEVER, if you want to clean up the look with the bagsoff - go here:

http://www.bruisersinc.com/

A bit pricey - but pretty cool too...you can just buy the parts you want or a whole kit to clean it up.

Bags are easy to remove and you can interchange between hard & leather. Baggers without bags look like crap IMO. If you want the stripped look, buy a Softail.

Good point. I love the looks of the classic, but I think I'll want mags instead of spokes next. I hate cleaning spokes - lol. The custom would be ideal, I think - hopefully it makes a return or I can find a nice used one in a year or two. Thanks for the responses fellas.

the RK Classic is the (imho) nicest looking HD thats being produced. the leather, basketweave, wide white walls, laced wheels... chrome nacelle. looks beautiful. i love mine.

i would like to add a quadzilla quick release fairing in time. $2000+ is quite a bit to spend.

Get yourself a Heritage if you like leather bags and want to take off and put on...softails look much better with bags off. Yes they make a quick release to take bags off fast.

nah . . no way. I hate thelook of the Heritage (no disrespect to any owners!). I think I can live with leaving the bags on, I was just curious as to how difficult it would be to strip her down.
