Best Electra Glide year
Even the simplest mods (pipes & air cleaner)
require a reprogram on the ECM.
$$$$$$$ !!!!! Carb bikes dont have
an ECM (YAAAAAY !!!)
FI bikes run leaner (hotter)
My FI 03 runs 20-30 deg (oil temp)
hotter than my 00 carbureted model
Elec fuel pumps fail, occasionally.
Gravity doesnt. I stated recently
when my 00 was stage 1. The cycle shack
mufflers, K&N and a re jet would run circles
around the 03 with the very same mufflers the SE air cleaner (which is crap by the way) and a SERT download.
Just sayin
But.. If a one bike runs hotter than another... the cause is not because one is EFI and the other is a carb..
The combination of intake, pistons (type & displacement), cams, heads, exhaust, and tune are what decide the amount of heat from an engine....
A carb is a simple and proven device. When maintained and properly tuned, it will produce a very good running bike...
My '01 Springer w/carb fires right up as soon as I touch of the starter button... When it starts I always think, "Why couldn't I get my kick start bikes dialed in like this...???"
But to be fair, and honest, a good EFI (like the Delphi in the HD) can control far more throughout the tune map, and in more detail, then jets, needles, floats, and diaphragms.... there is no reason for the exact same bike, one with EFI and one with carb, for the EFI bike to run worse than the carb bike... unless it has a poor tune....
The key to both is a good maintenance and a great tune by someone who knows what they are doing... not always and easy thing to find for either choice...
The SERT tune was done at a Harley Dealer @ time of purchase
I want to pull that cam cover to check those shoes.
At that time, new cams might accidentally go in there (most likely)
Which will require a re-prog.
R&C Cycles in Hayward Ca will do it.
I've heard nothing but good about them. I'm sure they'll dial it
in right.
Other than being a DOG, it's a beautiful bike. Runs like a clock,
But these days when a 96" is small . . . . . .
