Default Road Glide and Luggage rack

I purchased a 2005 Road Glide and at the same time I also purchased a luggage rack and sissy-bar with the forward and aft quick detach kits. To make a long story short, I got the bike home and began installing to quick detach kits. When I went to install the aft left hand bracket for the aft kit, I discovered that it attached to the same mount hole as the antenna bracket, looked back in the parts book and it said that I need the antenna relocation kit (another $100[>:]), went down to the dealer purchased the kit and installed it (I only used one bracket out of the kit). Now I have an antenna sticking up through the luggage rack, making it virtually useless.[:@]

Just an FYI for anyone else who was thinking of adding a luggage rack to their Road Glide.

HUH? Can you post a pic please?
It looks like the antenna on both of these bikes is outside of the luggage rack...

Looks like nether of the pictures you posted of the bikes has the aft docking kit installed?

I'm waiting on an '06 Glide myself and I plan on putting the tall backrest on with luggage rack 53011-98. Hard to tell in the pic, but looks like you've got rack 53743-97. I can't even find the p/n for the backrest docking hardware in the catalog.
Very difficult to see in the pic, but are you sure you have the bracket orientated correctly. I find it hard to believe that H-D would design this bracket to have the antenna go thru the luggage rack rendering it useless...

What is the aft kit?

Okay, found the docking kit p/n's in the catalog. I see that the luggage rack your running, p/n 53743-97 uses a seperate docking kit p/n 53804-06 which I believe your referring to as the "aft" hardware. I assume this is so the luggage rack can be removed independently from the sissy bar while the sissy bar remains in place. And the catalog does state that FLTR's and FLHX models require antenna relocation kit p/n 76236-00A (pg. 401).

Whereas I'm gonna run tall sissy bar p/n 52933-97B and luggage rack p/n 53011-98. Catalog states that this setup can be removed or reinstalled as a UNIT. And the way I read that is the luggage rack bolts directly to the sissy bar, not removable as a seperate unit with docking hardware. I further assume this luggage rack can be removed from the sissy bar with hand tools.

Hence it looks like the added docking hardware for your luggage rack is causing your consternation. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I say again, either the bracket is not orientated properly or your using the wrong bracket...

Why not relocate the antenna under the fairing and be done with the whole ordeal? Can you return the antenna relocation kit and get a refund?

Ya I think I'm going to go with the under the fairing idea. Does anyone have a website for the Dakota Digital antenna?

No I don't have anything mounted incorrectly and I am using the correct brackets. I think you will find that you to will have an interference problem, relocation bracket only moves the antenna back about 3" and up about 4". so if you install a luggage rack that sticks out about 2" from the side of the fender it will be all over that antenna.

Interesting...

And no offense meant in regards to your ability to install the relo bracket.
