Before you flame me, read on. I have this post in the Softtail section also, but no response. Many of you in the touring section have already seen me and I have read a ton of post by most of you. There are a lot of good wrenches here so if you have any experience with this please post.
I am posting this for a friend. He has a 86 Softtail custom. Speedo is not working. He got the parts from the local stealership to fix the problem. Are there any secrets to getting this fixed for him. I don't believe it is the cable rather the front end. I volunteered to let him bring it to my shop. I am not new to wrenching, but am fairly new to wrenchin on bikes. If any one has experience with this or has instructions on how to fix it feel free to post. If you need more info let me know.
My chopper is an 84 FXST and the speedo went out on me a few years ago. There was nothing to do but write down the odometer and replace it. Last year the front axle sender started making a bunch of noise so I replaced it too. It's a simple system, but stuff just wears out.... Drop the front wheel, replace the sender, put the wheel back on and ride.
