I am betting it's the cam. I ran the 204's for the life of my 09. The idle was really choppy and the RPM's danced around quite a bit. I would replace that mount while the bike is down for the season now that you have the time and torque it back to spec. Too tight and vibration might very well lead to a crack showing up in something that you don't want it to.

Yeah, That thought entered my mind. There are aftermarket mounts for up to 08 and mounts for 09 and later. 08 and earlier are softer. But I've read a lot of feedback about newer mounts transferring vibration to the frame and how some people prefer the earlier versions. If my mount would have been damaged I would have bought the earlier version to replace it, figuring I'd be be good, but since there's nothing wrong with it, I'll see how the tightening down works out before I try a new version.

Did you tune the engine after the upgrade to 103" and the 204 cams? Maybe in the spring a tune will smooth it out some what. I have a 95" kit and 203 cams in my carbed 02 Dyna, and idle is definitely quirky/odd.The cams might have interaction in this, but you'll have some nice torque now.

It seemed in times gone by the 06-08 got called Shakers around here. (local)
My 08 with a 103 with head work and cams and a tune can dance abit as you say.
For whatever the reason mine and I know 4 others with bikes in theses years and they all seemed to shake a bit more than most.
2 of them are bone stock 96's

Interesting. They probably would have had the older softer mounts, probably the second revision from 16207-79B to 79C. The third revision 79D is the one that's supposedly even stiffer. People either love them or hate them.

I replaced mine with the Glide Pro neoprene mount and it is much stiffer to the touch. The vibes are transferred to the frame/bars as stated above, but they do break in.

I had a 06 EG with relatively mild Andrews 21 cams and 88" and it shook a lot but that's the way it is designed to move. Once under way it smoothed right out. Also my bolt thru the front mount wasn't very tight. I could spin the bolt (with a nylok nut) thru the mount and that was the best feel that I could get. As others have said it doesn't need to be tight at all. Check Youtube-Glide pro had some pretty good videos that I watched to help me understand and dial mine in.

Seeing how i reinstalled the mount without running the motor to "settle in/finds its place" I'll loosen it up and run it in the spring, torque it to 40ft/lbs try it, if no good, then try 60ft/lbs. if it still shakes like crazy I'll have to decide between the Drag Specialties heavy duty urethane mount or the MoCo 79D stock one. Apparently they are both pretty hard material.

You’re not taking up any play, or squishing the rubber additionally with increased torque on the center bolt, there’s a steel sleeve in there.

There are a number of choices beyond just the two you mentioned. From yet more mounts to motion limiter caps and such.

The drag motor mount sucks. Don’t even bother. I tried one. Went with a glide pro. Pretty good. Center bolt torqued to 7or 8 lbs.
