Default Looking for a seat

So i just bought a ‘14 SG couple weeks ago and finally was able to get out for a decent ride tonight with the mrs. When we test road it it had a factory seat on it that pushed me too far forward and i could not stand it. I’m not a big guy for any means but have Longer than average legs. So i felt like my knees we in my throat. So i did the rational thing and said give me the best looking seat that sits me low and back and my wife will deal with it. So Badlander it was. Problem is. She hates i if naturally. I have a HD 24688 Low that was given to me and i love the seating position. She lives the passenger seat. Problem is the cover on it is terribly ugly. So my question is what is out there with similar seating position yet comfortable for a passenger. Or should i send what i have out and have it re worked? I like looks (like the diamond stitching but know i need to look at comfort. I want to keep the Bandlander just for bar hoping but definitely need something for the mrs. And for the numbers I’m around 6’ 200 pounds and she’s about 5’8 150. Thanks for any help.

I hear a lot of people swear by the Sundowner. I cant speak on it personally though. Maybe go back to the dealer and have a go at all their demo seats. If that doesnt fit the bill, plenty of aftermarket seats out there.

I'm 6'1, 34" inseam, 200lbs.

I love HD's low profile solo touring seat for my comfort, and my wife likes the pillion seat as well. The HD seat sits you lower than stock, and ever so slightly back as well. My knees no longer feel cramped, I'm lower, it looks fantastic, and I find it to be very comfortable on long trips. You also have the added bonus of taking off the pillion seat when you're riding along for a sleeker look.

I ran this stitched version on my Street Glide and bought it again for my Road Glide.

Depending on what your price range is, definitely take a look at Saddlemen.

The low profile solo seat i wanted but the dealer wanted little over $600 for it, the passenger seat, and whatever was needed to attach that. Which i could justify at the time. But i did like it.

I have tried a few seats on my Road Glides and I end up back on the Sundowner. I had one on my 2012 RGS and wife liked it, I hated it. So I bought a Mustang seat and it was great around town but, by the time we went from MI to TN we both hated it. So I bought the only seat they had available at the dealership in TN, which of course was a Sundowner. I have had that seat on 2 different RGS now and have come to really like it. It moved me up a little, but now that it is broken in and I'm used to it I don't plan on getting another seat to replace it, don't think the wife would let me if I tried.... Good Luck on your search.

Ah, the never ending seat saga! I felt the same about the stock seat. I'm also 6' 200lbs. My wife said she felt like she was sliding off the back and refused to ride again until I got something different. I have learned in the past that with miles upon miles in the saddle a low profile seat will take it's toll. I wound up getting a Mustang Super Solo and added a pillion for my wife when she rides with me. It's a compromise as it's not low profile but as a solo seat, I like the way it looks. Something like the Saddlemen one piece step up seats look better, but again, wife wouldn't be happy and I don't want to have to switch out seats all the time.

I will say, the Super Solo is the most comfortable seat I've used to date. The Saddlemen Dominator was a contender for a low profile seat, but my concern was I'd be unhappy on longer rides with it.

The "Which exhaust sounds best?" and the "Which seat?" questions are two of the most subjective questions anyone can ask.....

While people's opinions can help to guide you, especially when it comes to quality of a seat or customer service of a seat maker, which one is most comfortable is a question only you can answer....

One man's "Best seat in the world!" is another man's "You couldn't give me that seat!".......

There are several types of seats; from the firm, saddle-like seats, to the plush, soft seats, and many shades in between... you will have to find the seat that agrees with your riding style and butt meter...

You are going to need to sit on one yourself, hopefully get a good test ride, and then take a chance that it will be "the one".... sadly, some of the most expensive seats, don't have test ride programs... There eventually needs to be a "leap of faith" on your part... hopefully it will pay off..

I'm on my 5th bagger seat and while I have found some pretty comfortable ones... I haven't found that super long ride, no butt burn seat.... yet... I've been leery of dropping the big coin on a Russell Day Long or Corbin seat... so I've been nickel and diming myself on slightly cheaper seats trying to find my preference.. I am staying away from any "gel" seats as too many good seat makers and long distance riders don't speak highly of "gel" in M/C seats...

My seat search experience has been between a 2012 Limited and now a 2016 Ultra Classic:

My stock 2012 seat was "OK", but not great... I started looking for my "Holy Grail" seat after a cross country ride on the OEM 2012 seat...

The HD reach seat is absolute torture... I wouldn't give one to my worst enemy

I was surprised at how comfortable a used Sundowner Seat was (there are two versions, I got the #52093-08A version). But still gets uncomfortable after 4+ hours in a day...

I used Mean City Cycles to redo a seat for me. They do good work, but since I live on the opposite coast from their shop, and had to do a return for more work, the shipping made that seat too expensive for what it was in the end.... still not great...

I got a screaming deal on a new Rush Cycle Pedic seat... no better than the Sundowner on longer rides..

My wife recently bought me my first "firm" style seat... a LePera RT66... It certainly is firm, but I can't say it's uncomfortable... I'm now breaking it in and will need a long trip to truely evaluate it... but it shows promise... maybe I'm a "firm seat guy" after all...

Good luck with your search...

My wife and I have had good luck with the 2pc seats from Mustang. The separate riders seat moves you back more than their 1pc does. I can't stand any of the Harley seats that I have tried.

I went through the same thing and read a lot of comments here. With my other bike I tried Mean City Cycles in NC. They made my keister able to sit in a Badlander seat all day. Give them a call. I just sent my SG seat to them after a great job on my last one. I spent about $200 bucks. They can do a lot with a stock seat. They have options on their website. Worth a look and a lot better than making a $500-$900 mistake.
