I’m looking for a drivers backrest for my 02 RK and want to know what to look for. I have a Sundowner seat on it now and mostly ride two up.
The first thing I would check is to see if Sundowner only works with their own proprietary backrests. (I believe this is the case with Mustang.) That may limit your choices and avoid some disappointment finding a rest you like but discovering it won't work with your seat. Good luck
Second piece of advice: decide if you want a fixed or "adjustable" backrest. You'll probably get 50/50 for & against the adjustable. For me, the fixed is more than adequate. I know me - I set the backrest once and never touch the adjustment again (much like my car seat). Plus, the adjustable makes installation a bit more difficult (though not impossible). BTW, even the fixed allowed 3 positions back & forth depending on preference. Love mine & so does my wife. She says it makes her feel more secure and that she is not sliding into me on hard braking or if she adjusts in her seat.
Yes. And while I am normally reluctant to get much of the Harley aftermarket items [I thought their "Windsplitter" windshield sucked and hated every "upgraded" seat they offered], this backrest worked seamlessly with my stock [but re-worked] Ultra seat.
I believe Mustang has a backrest, bracket bolts under the seat, has some adjustments, and I think it's compatible with your seat, but call them for confirmation, it's back rest is a little thinner padded, I liked mine when I had it, but now have a Corbin seat, and doesn't work with it

get the Harley fixed backrest. I’ve used it on all my bikes and the cvo’s come with a fixed backrest. The mounting bracket has 3 positions so you can be as close or as far away from the tank as you want plus it has an adjustable set screw behind the pad that sets the tilt. Once you dial it in, you will be good to go.
