I don't know how they compare to the higher end shocks like Ohlin, but for half that price I sure like them. I got a set of the Fox Shox IFP Preload Adjustable Heavy Duty Shocks 12" Rear #897-27-101 off eBay from Parts Giant and installed them this afternoon.
What a huge difference. You guys were right, the stock sucks way more than I thought. I hit a nasty dip in the highway in AZ last Sunday, and my back is still sore from that hit.
I was the same, never wanted to spend good money on shocks, never thought it would be worth it. Now, the suspension is the first thing I upgrade. Makes one of the biggest improvements you can make. I went with Legends this time around. Fox was my second choice but I got a great deal on the Legends.
I did the front today - 30 minutes to tear it apart, 90 minutes to install the Fox components, 75 minutes to reinstall the fork legs because 2 friends showed up and we BS'd while I was working.
Are these the most underrated shock on the market? I don't know, but I sure like them. Very smooth and firm, but not at all harsh like the factory springs.
Special thanks to @Parts Giant for the great deal on these shocks.

Interested. But I plan to do 1” lower cartridges. Feel like front is too high and top heavy. May be lowering will help me.
I believe they are very under rated. I had those Fox shocks on my Dyna. At the time, there was very limited information about them, but I decided to go with them. The way I looked at it was Fox is a very reputable company who'd been making shocks for a while. So what could go wrong. I really enjoyed them on my dyna. I never got around to doing the fronts. They hadn't come out with the cartridges until recently. I really considered doing fox front and rear on my road glide, but I wanted a little more high performance so I decided on the RWD. ENJOY!!!
btw...I LOVE that denim red paint. I've really considered wrapping my bike in that color. Paint is just way too expensive. haha
Fox is well known in the off road segment, bikes, quads and even trucks.
I think that many are used to that..and cautious about their street/touring ability.

Just my opinion…
I raced on Fox shocks for a few years so I had faith that they could get it right on a touring bike.
I pounded on these like they owed me money, and they didn't fail ---
The thing is if your going to go with an aftermarket shock, I would look at the shocks length of travel. The Fox shock is about the same as the factory shock, about 1 3/4" while the RS-1 is 4". That makes a huge difference in the ride quality and how firm the spring has to be to keep the shock body off the bump stop..... I like Fox shocks I run them on my Jeep, I was just looking for more on the back of the bike.....
