Default Throttle lag

Just curious if throttle lag will be gone with stage one. This is my first Harley and I notice a very slight throttle lag when I first pull on the throttle. Or are there other ways to get rid of this ?

You could try a throttle reset.

Im sorry but what is throttle reset ? Throttle lag I’m talking about is not negative. It’s been like this from the start when I got it new. I think it’s just the way it is. It’s just a slight delay when you pull in throttle and engine response. Even Indian has it, but theirs is more than Harley.

Im looking for a smooth response like a sport bike. Engines responds with throttle. I don’t want that slight delay in engine response. Not sure if I’m making sense.

I have the same problem with a stage one and full dyno tune. I was told you cant get it out. Its similar to cars and trucks but at least you can buy devices to take that out for them.

OK, I get it now. Won't happen without some engine work. HD engines operate a lot like one of your Omak orchard tractors...... slow LOL!

Don't know if this is in your plan but when I installed/loaded my FP3 on my '13 Road Glide Ultra there is a setting for throttle response. When it was stock I notice a very very short lag in the throttle. with the FP3 I programmed a more responsive throttle and that was when i noticed the lag that I was used to. Maybe a dealer can take the lag out with their computer download.

Certain Tuners have the capacity to fix that lag, and to change how quickly the throttle blade responds to grip movement. It will never 100% match that of a cable operated throttle but you can get very close.

Back when throttle by wire was new, there were lots of complaints about lag. The term turned out to be misleading. For whatever reason,(best guess is to protect the bottom end) Harley programed a limit on wide open throttle. No matter the twist grip position, the ECM would not allow wide open throttle below 3000 RPM. In reality, the throttle would respond almost instantaneously to the twist grip, no "lag" but not go to WOT until the RPM lower limit had been satisfied. Pay close attention to see if you have a real lag (no response to twist grip movement for a noticeable period) or instant response, just not all the way to WOT. A true lag should be repairable, but I don't know how wise it would be to reprogram to allow WOT below 3000 rpm. A down shift when you are really in a hurry seems the easiest fix.
