Tires should NEVER get that bad,, if you look your bike over once a week at least, just look it over good. It's called TCLOCK https://msf-usa.org/downloads/T-CLOC..._Checklist.pdf This looks like it'd take a long time, but even if you just glance at the things, it'd be enough to stop that issue!
No different than looking your car over. I always look at my cars and bike as I walk up to them,, it saved me one day,,, that and the position the rear tire was in when I parked.

Man, your picture is about what I saw when I walked out of the Comcast building one day. I had two different emotions at one time....!. 1. Crap! the tire only has about 5000 miles on it.
2. WOW! I'm glad I caught it like that. If that nail had been on the other side of the tire I'd never have seen it. Even though it was unfortunate to have to have a new tire bought and installed, I was VERY fortunate to have caught it before I was out on the Interstate doing 75 mph.

The LED's are part of the detachable tour pack kit which it appears he has

Few years back mine were getting down and I was less than a month to end of riding season. At a bike night with my wife and some guy is looking at my tires and says to my wife: "I wouldn't ride on those!". Great cost me $500 that week

Thats nuts to run a tire like that, once the center tread is near gone new tires are on the way. I never even get to the wear bars let alone e cords

Paid $227 more than what I had planned doing next week. Since I was on the road away from home, stayed in a hotel, uber and eating out. I have AAA so tow was no charge.

The bike definitely feels good in the turns and planted. I also feel like bike is 1/2 to 3/4 inch taller.

New treads and proper PSI, yeah that'll give you another 1/2" - 3/4". Just think, you'll lose that again in another 25K miles.
