There is a well known security system hack for Electraglides that involves installation of a Radio Shack siren for bikes that come from the factory with the security system installed. If I recall correctly the siren was $7.50 as compared to the plug and play Harley siren that is $95. I've had the Radio Shack set up on my last 2 Electraglides. My only issue with the Radio Shack set up is the siren beeps every time you turn the motorcycle on and off. Can someone that has the Harley siren tell me if the siren beeps every time the motorcycle is turned on and off? I'm considering buying the Harley siren however I'm not going to invest in it if it has the same on/off beeping issue. Thanks in advance for any info made available.
I believe there is a way to turn that chirping off at least on the newer Harleys. I watched a youtube vid by professional monkey about this not to long ago. He did explain how to turn it off.
That what you get with the "Radio Shak" siren... I used one for about a year and then it quit working, but for 10 bucks, so what.
2 things I noticed with that one... the chirping was backwards, turn the bike off - system arms - it would chirp once/ turn bike on - system disarms - it chirped twice.
otherwise it worked great, till it didnt.
The other thing, I could not get it to go to"Chirpless" mode.... ever..... no matter how many times I tried, how many times I walked away and came back.... thought I was gonna wear out the ignition switch. With the 100 dollar HD one it switched between modes easy as can be lol
I have no idea why there was these two quirks... but on two bikes both experienced the same two things... not a real big deal at all, just one of those things I was sure I was doing something wrong...
Here's how you switch between chirp and chirp-less mode... on the HD siren it works every time... I could NEVER get it to work on the "off brand" sirens lol
Chirpless Mode
In the chirpless mode, the siren does not chirp on arming or disarming.
NOTE
Even when armed in the chirpless mode, the siren still chirps warnings on movement and activates the alarm through cycles.
Chirp Mode
On arming in the chirp mode, the siren responds with two chirps. When disarming, the siren responds with a single chirp.
Switching Modes
Quickly cycling ignition switch ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON
switches the system from one mode to the other.
1. With the fob present, turn the ignition switch to IGNITION.
2. When the security lamp turns off, turn the ignition switch to OFF.
3. When the security lamp turns off (but before the turn signals flash twice), immediately turn the ignition switch to IGNITION.
4. When the security lamp turns off, immediately turn the ignition switch to OFF.
5. When the security lamp turns off (but before the turn signals flash twice), immediately turn the ignition switch to IGNITION.
