Default Non-Adjustable Backrest

Over the weekend I picked up the non-adjustable HD backrest for my '21 SGS. They had a the adjustable but I didn't want to shell out another $100 and have a switch/cable on the side of the bike.

For the 4 mounting holes on the bracket, the closest or first three push me so far forward, even with the pad's adjustment screw backed all the way out, that I'd rather not even have it. The furthest mount is somewhat manageable but not ideal. I also don't like how much the seat gets distorted when the backrest is installed.

Currently, I have stock seat and stock bars. At 5'8", a fat 5'8" mind you, I was surprised to see how forward this backrest was. Does the adjustable version offer more range? I also noticed the location of the pivot point of the adjustable might make it easier on the seat. Does it distort the seat a lot when moved all the way back?

Maybe it bring it back and try one of these.Theirs has an adjustment screw that moves for a little fine tuning. Good quality too.

I use Harley fixed back rest on all my bikes and at the rearmost mounting position, it’s fine for me after adjusting the tilt on the set screw on the pad. I’m 6’2”.

I've had both HD styles, fixed and adjustable. Both crunch up the seat btw, and both are a pain in the *** to install and remove the backrest when not needed; although, the Adjustable version is a little easier.
The fixed version takes awhile to dial in, and sometimes depending on many factors, may never work exactly how you want it. Many people find it works fine though - me included.

That said, the adjustable version is fantastic as you can set it almost anywhere on the fly AND you can make quick changes when you say, wear a puffy jacket, or your passenger needs a little more room or whatever.
Note: The adjustment lever is not in a great location but it works with a little practice.
I bought an Adjustable version with backrest from the parts forum (https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-parts-121/) for around 150. I've seen them in there pretty regularly for 150-200... worth stalking.

I recently installed the non adjustable back rest too. It’s on a 2021 CVO Streetglide. I have a CVO Roadglide seat from a 2016. It is pushing me forward too much to. I can move it I think 1 more hole rearward. And it is really hard trying to install it as the cut out in the seat seems just a tad on the small side. I have the screw out too. Hopefully I can find it more comfortable moved all the way back.
