Default upgrade advice

Thinking of upgrading to a new ride.
Currently I have a 2000 flhtpi with 75000 miles on the clock, she still runs good, and is reliable, but I'm getting the itch for a newer bike, for better handling, more power.
Any suggestions/recommendations as to what years to stay away from...looking at road glides and street glides, I don't want to break the bank but am prepared to spend mid to high teens for what I want.
Thanks in advance

Go do some test rides at your local dealer, should help you get closer to what you want.

You should be able to get a 2014+ Rushmore garage queen for your price point. More likely a ‘16-18.

Probably better off looking on something like Cycle Trader. With the dealers only getting a few bikes from the Moco, they are really starting to jack up the prices on used bikes right now. One of the dealers by me doesn’t even list prices on their website anymore. They just have “contact for quote” since the market is fluctuating so bad right now….

At least a 09 and up. 14 and up get the new audio and 103HO minimum.

Having just made the jump from an 03 to a 17 all I can say is don't ride anything newer unless you're serious about buying. The change is that dramatic that you won't want to go back.

I would definitely agree with the 09 up frame change but I think the 14 and up Rushmore upgrades really should make that your target. From there it really depends on whether you want a late model twin am or roll the dice on an early M8. I went with the M8 and so far no regrets.

Good luck in your search.

I know the pain you are experiencing. I traded my 07 Street Glide in recently.
My HD wrench mentions staying away from the early M8 years because of the oil sump issue. Harley Davidson issued a recall, but you might have a hard time determining if that work was done.
Good luck.

You mention handling specifically. Have you done any suspension work? I cannot speak for the ride of the new bikes but I see everyone doing that same needed upgrades the old bikes need as far as suspension goes. Conversion to cartridge and quality piggyback or remote reservoir shocks.
. They make a world of difference.
I do get the wanting a newer bike thing though.
