2016 Electra
2900 miles
When riding i here a loud, at least tp me to it seems loud a chatter coming from the left side and a whining noise.
when i pull the clutch in it goes away.
I know that there is/was a recall for something that has to do with the clutch for this year
which hasnt been done yet.
but what do you all think it could be and if you think this is part of the recall ?
I have changed the primary
There are many things it could be. They are all inside the primary. The only way to know is to open it up. It could be an inner primary bearing and race or the clutch pack behind the compensator. Clutches usually don't make noise unless they are coming apart. If the clutch isn't slipping it's probably not the problem. Take it in for the clutch recall and have them look at everything.
So picked up my bike yesterday after having Harley do the recall.
they gave me an estimate on trying to find out what is goin on $700 plus whatever they find needed for parts. So could be alittle under a $1000 total or a little over.
for a bike with 2950 miles now.
was told recall has nothing to do with clutch..but i thought that was what the recall was for.
It seems to pull fine and runs great...it's just that noise is horrible.
should i just ride it the way it is ?
Have listened to other Harleys that were there and they didn't have the noise.
can anyone recommend a place in MA besides Harley dealer in Boston Ma area for 2nd opinion ?
thanks in advance
Tom
Your issue is definitely the I.P.B.(inner primary bearing) Big job requiring special tools. If your a handy person with the tools or access to the tools its a doable job. If not your forced to have it done by a qualified mechanic. This issue must be attended to sooner then later. You do not want this to get so bad it comes apart, this will take out the whole primary. I am amazed that yours is shot at 2900 miles, mine went at 40,000. One finale note, if you have a good indy shop in your area this might be a cheaper way out of your problem.
I agree with 1340hog...definitely inner primary bearing. No way that job is worth a grand. Bring it to me I'll hook you up for 500...new bearing, gasket and some nice fresh oil. I've got an opening on Sunday lol...no idea where you're located but bring it to good indy...unless you have access to a shop press or buy/ make the tool the to remove and install the bearing then its not a hard job at all.
