I have a 2011 Road King with FI that has been having an odd issue. Here's the scenario. Fairly warm evening - in the 80s. Fire the bike up, let it warm up while I get my gear on - probably 4-5 mins. Ride out of the neighborhood and then about 30 mins of highway/freeway to a coffee shop. Bike runs flawlessly.
Meet a buddy for coffee - bike is parked for an hour and a half or so.
When leaving, warm the bike up for 4 mins or so, getting on gear or what not.
Several times on the street leading to the freeway as well as on the freeway, it stumbles. As in turn the throttle and it cuts out - almost like you would feel on a bike that was not getting fuel or the electrical was cutting out
Does this 3-5 times. Then it runs fantastic all the way home.
Agree , does sound electrical , check both pos / neg cables , both ends and along the jacket , could be just corrosion . I always have a can of electrical contact cleaner , if you're in an area where there is a lot of condensation , it helps to clean connectors , fuses , relays etc .
You'll also have a couple of ground posts , just under the rear of the fuel tank , make sure everything there is clean and tight . Check for broken wires or connectors that may have started to fracture .
Check the two connectors under the front of the frame , stator and crank sensor , doing oil changes , the oil runs down covering those connectors .
Hey everyone
Thanks for the suggestions - I did the same ride last night, and had the exact same issue - except this time, it stumbled out of the driveway as well, which it had not done before
I flashed the codes when I got home and ended up with a P0118 and PN 32933-11. Based on my research, this is indicates an Engine Temp Sensor high state, Based on other posts I was able to find, and the bikes behavior, it would appear that the engine temp sensor is/has failed. This makes sense, since the issue only occurred a couple mins after starting the bike - once on the road, the bike runs flawlessly, which makes an electrical issue seem less likely (I also checked the battery connections and they are rock solid)
