Default Now that if have the GTS, thinking about adding WHIM

Sorry this may get long and confusing, hope you all can follow along.

Since getting the GTS and jumping the headset connectors for CarPlay to work, I’m thinking about getting the WHIM so I can speak commands and have communications with my wife on her bike.

My wife rides her own and we have Sena smh 10’s that work great to communicate and for music in the helmet, but I don’t think they will work with any quality sound with WHIM.

Given the poor reviews on the HD website for WHIM I’m wondering if I can some how get the wired headset for commands on the radio, but still use the SENA for talking to my wife. Also not sure if there is smithing we can do to add a CB or other function to both bikes for use with a wired headset. She is on an 09 Heritage.

not sure what my best options are and I’m sure others have had similar wants, so looking for best options.

You could do the sena freewire or you could do the magic microphone thing sold on eBay (if you have a 7 pin port to plug it into, otherwise you'd need that too).

I've had the WHIM since my '19 SGS was new, and it's worked flawlessly. People like to **** talk it, but if you're smarter than it is you'll find that it works quite well.

I have no experience with the WHIM as we decided to go the Cardo PackTalk Bold/Black route. Many here that use it are quite pleased with the performance...particularily if using the HD issue headsets.

What I do know is you will need to decide to go either hard wired or wireless...can't mix & match. Once the WHIM (or CarPlay hack/jumper) is plugged in, it renders the hard wired headset inoperative.

I installed the WHIM on a 2014 CVO Limited and it worked great. You will have to get HD to turn it on in software (quick process) and bear in mind that if you want stereo music, you need to use the HD-branded Sena devices. Other versions will work, but audio quality will suffer.

Thanks, I will look into both.

I wonder if will I get stereo sound using my smh 10? If so, it may be the best choice since I wouldn’t need to replace my Sena units. (I also have have the HD branded bell helmet Made to fit the smh 10)

Ok, now that I have done some digging, I am intrigued with the Sena free wire.

Anyone using this with the GTS and Car Play? The site calls out a sms20, but does say it works with any Sena Bluetooth. Would like to know if anyone is running the GTS with free wire and an smh10, and curious how it all works.

Looks like it needs charged and not run from the bikes power, that may be a draw back, but the plus is no dealer flash.

feedback on this is appreciated.

Very well said, If you can flip a light switch without assistance you'll love the WHIM, flawless integration with everything, works as designed, voice commands a ++++++

SD,

For what it's worth...I have a 2019 Street Glide Special. I installed the HD WHIM and had a dealership "flash" the bike. I also have the Harley Davidson 30K Sena headset and an iPhone. To eliminate the process of connecting my iPhone to my SGS, I use a CPLAY2air wireless adapter. The CPLAY2air adapter plugs into the USB connector inside the little compartment. All work seamlessly (CarPlay)...I can voice a text message, ask Siri for directions, take phone calls while riding 65 MPH and people cannot believe I'm riding my Harley. Everything shows up in CarPlay on my GTS Boom Box screen. I have a 3/4 Shoei JO helmet with a pull down visor...love the helmet. Everything works great...however, I have not tested it with other riders. Since Sena designed their system to communicate with riders, I'm fairly confident your set up will operate flawlessly.
