I picked up a trunk from a 2008 CVO that’s leather covered and mounted it on my 2016 RG with a 4 point docking kit. Every now and then I can use a bit of extra storage and the wife prefers that over a sissy bar when she’s on the back.
As a rule I don’t leave it out in the weather but because it’s 21+ years old I’m thinking the leather could use some treatment. My brother gave me something for my Fox Creek Leather jacket. Does anyone else here have a tour tour pack where they treat the leather?
My 21 year old Heritage Classic came with a leather trunk. It still looks like new. I just the Harley leather treatment stuff (called restorer, I think) and the Harely black leather treatment (kind of like shoe polish). Mayb there is better stuff out there, but I'd say this has stood the test of time.
You can use any good leather cleaner and conditioner, like Lexol. I have the ones Fox Creek sells that I use for my riding leathers - Montana Pitch Blend, including the leather covered solo seats I have.
If I ride through rain or leave my bike out in the hot sun a lot then I'll clean and condition the seat about 3 -4 times a year.
