I had my 07 RKClassic in to a different dealer today for the clatter issue. They had told me it was probably the chain tensioner however it turned out to be that the nut that held on the compensator(sp) was way out of spec of torque. The service manager said it was loose and therefore causing theclatter. He said you could easily move the nut even though there was some locktite on the threads. They cleaned off the threads, put some locktite on, torqued thenut to spec., and I amno longer am part of the clatter club. He said it was not torqued to spec at the factory. I'm back to whine in 5th gear but no clatter at all. It runs great andI'mhappy to say that I'm glad I did not give up and listen to the dealers who said "it's normal just ride it". No, I won't be taking the bikeback to the original dealerfor anything.
Its actually a bolt, glad to hear you lost the noise, many like me, have had this checked-I paid myself since original dealer wouldnt go inside or wasnt allowed. My torque was to specs but was backed off and retorqued along with threadlock.Still have the clatter. But finally got paperwork that showed clatter complaint.
glad to hear about your experience. Kinda reminds me of the problem I had years ago. Kept getting a whine from the back of the bike. got rid of the ex-wife, and the sound went away?

That's funny...you could have just gotten a solo seat and still got rid of the whine, but I digress...
My buddy just had this exact same issue (clatter noise) on his 05 Road Glide over this past weekend. Took it to our local indy and it was the same problem, loose compensator bolt.
