I am going to be "upgrading" my handlebars to the Kraus Pro Kit. In order to do this I need to remove my ignition switch. Before I can remove and have the ignition switch deprogrammed from the bike I need to get an HD security system with key fob. I found good prices on the security system at Surdyke, New Castle, and Utah HD. Is the HD security System something I can install myself or will I need to have the bike programmed for this? The HD part number is 41000087F. It appears to be plug and play but have found no installation videos or directions. The only thing I could find on Youtube was some guy installing a radio shack security system. My bike is a 2016 FLHT. Thanks for any advice.
On touring bikes the large part with two plugs goes under the left side cover and the small rectangular antenna goes under the seat. It all just plugs in but I would imagine the bike would have to be flashed by the dealer afterwards. I would think the labor to just have the dealer install the parts wouldn't be any more than just flashing as it would only take 5 minutes to install it all.
I added it to my 15, have to get the dealer to flash the ECM, I put the module in, and the bike would not start, so had the dealer put it in and flash. They didn’t charge me much to do it.
i think he is wanting to do the ignition switch delete for the look with the new handlebar setup. otherwise he wouldn't be talking about 'deprogramming' the switch.
What are you putting in it's place? I want to delete mine but I'm not doing it for the bars, just want the switch gone. There isn't much out there to cover the hole that's left.
Edit:- I see the Kraus kit replaces the triple tree setup entirely so the problem would be solved. It would be nice if there was a cover that would help us regular handlebar guys out.
