S&S and HyLift are fine, as are Fueling or Wood directional. You would benefit from a better tuner as well.

At 40k I'd be sure they look at the oil pump and cam plate while they are in the cam chest. The parts aren't cheap, but much less expensive to replace them while things are opened up.

No you do not need to worry about tappet cuffs/guides. You don't have them.... The tappet cuffs/guides are an M8 engine thing.....

You just have the lifter covers and anti-rotation pins... and you won't even have to remove/touch them if you plan it right... just remove and replace the lifters from the cam chest once the cam chest is empty, and suspend the lifters up off the cams with magnets while disassembling/reassembling the cam chest..

I would check your crank run out ,on both sides , thats where bulletproof starts .

Whenever doing a cam install on one of my later twin cam bikes, I always changed lifters, regardless of mileage. The 2011 & newer twin cams used the "C" lifters, #18538-99C... which were considered marginal by some and complete junk by many... At the very least, they were far worse than their predecessor, the "B" lifters, #18538-99B.

I have been using Johnson-Hylift lifters from WFO Larry (Larry's Motorcycle & Machine Inc). I have been using his #2313SE (slow leakdown w/pin oiling) lifters and find them to be a good performing lifter. They are cheaper than the S&S lifters and every bit as good, IMHO..

Same here. Larry's lifters are great.

This thread is from 2021, but instead of starting a new one, I thought I would ask about the Johnson-Hylift lifters. I looked at the Larry's Motorcycle Machine website as suggested above, but I can't find anywhere on their website where it states that their tappets are the Johnson-Hylift tappets. It is a very poor website with very little information given. They have not responded to my emails. Where can I find those particular tappets? The manufacturer of the Johnson-Hylift tappets lists a distributor as Engine Parts Specialist in Los Angeles, but they do not seem to have a website. I don't want to buy some knock off from EBay. Thx.

Right on Larry's site you have to click on the " online store" button to actually buy lifters. I wouldn't buy them from eBay or Amazon. Just my opinion but they put out a great lifter and they don't rob you. There's a link to the site in a post about midway in this thread...I would link it but I have no clue how to do it lol. Larrysmotorcyclemachine.com and find that online store button...slow leakdown with pin oiling is the way to go. 2313SE is the part number.
