I suspect some of the measurements vary depending on who is doing the measuring. I can understand how the heavier RG could have a lower seat than the SG, but not if it also has a higher ground clearance.

I bought a '21 EG Standard over a SG for the buy in price. I knew there were things I was going to change or replace off the stock SG. It's all up to personal preference and what you want to do with YOUR bike. The "savings" from buying a EGS over a SG where used to get the things I wanted right off the bat. I changed the bars, grips, windshield, seat(saddlemen), added passenger boards, added a Sony and better speakers(not tied to HD's stuff). I'm happy with the way MY bike has come along and I still have a ton of upgrades I want to do. The next thing I'm addressing is the suspension.

There are plenty of things one can do to any bike, it's all about how much you want to pay up front for certain things from the factory or will you be changing those "standard" items?

I've been wondering why if you do a google search Street glide vs electra glide - the first hit says the street glide is 1.5 inches longer - but all the actual specs I've found say that the both run the same wheelbase - and that the electra glide is actually a bit longer overall *if it has the tourpack... Here's a printscreen

hd's own published specs are equal to that. i wonder if it might be the extra length of the radio antenna sticking out the back that gives it that extra inch? same rake, wheelbase, etc.

Electra Glide Standard is pretty hard to beat in terms of value. I prefer the brushed aluminum finish on the engine over chrome and I also prefer the look of the stock "grandpa wheels" what ever that means.

My very first big twin was a brand new Electra Glide Standard back in 1999. It was 20 grand back in those days which was not cheap, but the lower price point compared to other models at the time, meant I could afford to move up to a big twin with the touring chassis. The owner of Kane's Harley Davidson in Kelowna at the time, assured me I was going to love that machine. He was not wrong and I've loved Harley touring machines ever since. A new 2021 EG Standard in Canada now goes for 25 grand so still not much of a price increase after 22 years and a lot of improvements over the years (better chassis, better brakes, better transmission, better engine, and better suspension etc....)

Only reason I wouldn't buy a Standard today is that the wife has been spoiled by the plush passenger accommodations of the Ultra Limited. When your wife loves riding on a motorcycle as much as you do, you make sure she is happy....

I had a superglide in 95, the polished engine made me feel cheap. I know chrome won't get you home,

I currently ride a 2013 Switchback Dyna. It came with polished aluminum parts. Over time, I replaced most of the parts with their chrome equivalent.

For me, the number one reason to get an SG would be the chrome....but hey, that's me. It's worth it for me to get the SG just on this alone for the expense and my time to replace those parts, I'd rather just buy the bike with the chrome parts. Also, aesthetically, I like the rims on the SG better, while I like the EG's rims functionally. And of course, color choices outside of black, and also, a metallic looking badge vs a painted badge. Aesthetically, I like the SG more than the SGS also.

A couple of years ago, while on tour, I stopped into Troy NY, HD and they had a used EG with an aftermarket Sony stereo in it. Gotta say, thought it sounded waaaaaaaaaaaay better than what comes in the SGS.

I think for someone who wants a blank canvas bike to make their own, the EG makes a lot of sense. For me, I want some of the canvas already painted and then go from there. I'd go SG.

I was wondering the same and I found that it's the fender extention of the SG that adds the little extra length.
