After 7 years and 89,000 miles, I'm trading my 2015 FLHTK for a 2022 Road Glide Limited, black over blue.
On the FLHTK we have used the Sena 20S units with the helmet clamp that has the cable option for the HD 7 pin plug. Most of the time we're totally wireless but when we're eating up miles we plug in so we can hear the music directly from the Boom.
For the Road Glide, I think I'm going to install the WHIM from the beginning. I know my 20S units will only get mono from the Boom/WHIM and I'm ok with that.
I have some helmets without a Sena clamp and I use the standard wired headset with them. I could skip the WHIM install and use everything the same way as today but going full wireless is a draw.
My question is, once I install the WHIM is the 7 pin plug on the dash and tour pak disabled? I'm not clear if I can use the WHIM sometimes and the plug others.
The 2022 will not have the 7-pin plug. The WHIM works really well, and you likely will not miss the plug. The upgrade to the newer HD-branded headsets was worthwhile, though, at least to get stereo music. Performance with the non-stereo headsets is still good, just lacking audio quality.

Hey Larry, can you tell me more about the cord you're using? I just got a limited and would like to be able to plug in so I can use the bike features with the Sena that is on my helmet already. I don't want to switch over to the wired headset entirely because I need the bike to bike communication aspect.

The 2022 Road Glide Limited DOES HAVE the 7-pin plug. If OP goes with his existing wired headset mounts & BTs, it will work just like it did on his 2015 FLHTK providing he changes out the right side handlebar switches to add the rider's PTT switch (passenger PTT is already there, but not rider's, although with no CB, the intercom will work w/VOX).
If he adds the WHIM, I believe he will lose the 7-pin connectivity? But he'll have VOX for the intercom, so the PTT isn't needed/required (unless he wants to add the CB, in which case, either wired or WHIM will both require adding the PTT to get CB to transmit).
Once it is flashed for WHIM the wired head sets no longer function. There are other advantages to upgrading to HD brand SENA. The ability to control all functions from the bike. is one. I have the WHIM purchased it when the were first released and then moved it to my 2020 RGL.

This is the headset clamp with the option of being wired to the bike.

Thank you. This is the point I wanted to verify "Once it is flashed for WHIM the wired head sets no longer function." So I'll have the plugs on the bike but they will be inactive and my wired only headsets will be inoperable. Is there a user selectable choice on the Boom to change back and forth between wireless and wired?

I knew you would jump on this and clarify. Move to the WHIM and you can no longer use the plug.
No option to go back and forth. By the way, the lighted switches are currently on backorder - says ready in about 4 weeks or so.
