As far as the front a complete upgrade would be the "easiest" way, or; you could try differing oil weights, upgrading the springs, add valving, etc., however each upgrade would require tearing into the bike = less riding, so save that **** for the winter.

I could be wrong but I think he's talking about rear shocks.

Bearings and pivot shaft were the same except in about 2011 they changed the pivot shaft to a cheaper to manufacture, reduce part count and easier assemble.
This is great news as I am using the current shocks on my 2007. They work much better than the 100,000 mile air shocks did.

My original question was about the rear shocks. But I did, later I the thread, ask about the need to upgrade the fronts as well.

This is an over simplification -
Rear shock upgrade is 80% comfort and 20% improved handling.
Front shock upgrade is 20% comfort and 80% improved handling and reduced braking dive.
13” aftermarket rear shocks are the biggest single improvement you can make to a bagger, especially if you have the junk stock air shocks. As you found out, the air leaks out, air pressure changes with the temperature, and the 2 inches of travel is pathetic.

On my 07 FLHX, I had set my shocks at 14 psi, higher with a passenger, and upgraded to a Mustang seat with a backrest for lower spine support. My rear shocks never leaked air, for which I am thankful.
For my 21 FLHXS, I am interested in new rear shocks and haven't decided which brand/review is right for me.
