Default Heated Grips Replacement

I have a 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra, the heated grips still work but the grips themselves are deteriorating, I want to change them to another HD heated grip. Is it plug n play or do I have to take the bars (KST Renegades) off to feed the new grip wires?

I installed stock black rubber heated grips on a 2020 FLHX and you’ll have to feed the wires through the bars. It’s plug and play after that but the wires are hard wired to the grips as I recall.

Here’s a suggestion. I’ve not used these but they looked interesting to me to solve your problem.

LOL....$40 for a couple of squares of leather!!!.....what a deal. Better to just cut off the old existing grip material and glue on a piece of leather, rubber or foam. Probably worth a try and if it works great, if not you were planning on replacing them anyway.

Adding another layer of "anything" in addition to what's still there could negate the heating feel to your hands.

Not true. I have these grips covers. It does take and extra 2-3 minutes to heat the grip covers, but they still work and get plenty hot that I usually only run at 3 when below 35. I cannot believe that leather would not pass the heat as well or better.

I wear leather gloves with thinsulate lining, AND smart-wool glove liners, and my heated grips heat my hands just fine through all that at 2, and never more than 3.

Yes you'll have to feed the clutch side grip's wires thru to the center of the bars (the power wires and the interconnect wires that goes to the throttle grip, 2 wires each and little 2 pin connectors). The wire from the throttle side stays, you just have the "plug" under the cap on the end of the throttle grip to unplug/plug back in. The two connectors from the clutch side probably both plug in under the speedo/tach on your Road Glide. I added heated grips to my RGU and did not have to take the bars off to feed the 2 little connectors from the end of the bars thru to the hole in the the center of the bars, I just staggered them and pulled them thru... but they were stock bars. I think worst case is you might would have to de-pin the connector and pull the wires, then put the connectors back on.

Just be aware... most HD heated grip the power wires has a fuse block on them that will not fit thru the bars. The only one that both sets of wires go all the way inside the bars to the center, is the rubber ones, like the stock ones and the big Kahuna's (there may be more now that do). Be sure to check on what you're buying.

Most all grips "age" with time. Personally, I always wear gloves when I ride because my hands sweat and I feel my grip is more secure. In summer I wear a pair of HD gloves that have leather on the palms and a nylon knit on the back. In early Spring and Fall, I wear a thin all leather pair. Both work well with my HD factory heated grips.

I have these installed over my heated grips. It does take a bit longer for them to heat up. Once heated up they work great.

You can clean up the OEM rubber grips with light sand paper. Try it, you'll be amazed.

En France, les gants sont obligatoires, et c'est bien mieux pour la sécurité (gants homologués)
