Default Oil Temp/Pressure guage

My new '07 GezzerGlide has a USELESS air temp guage. I want to put an oil temp guage on it. My old '87 had an oil temp guage on it, wired thru the oil drain plug. Is it possible? The Harley parts book has one in it. Has anyone did it?

I did it on an 06 EGS. Can't imagine it being any different on an 07. If you're using the HD gauge, install the sensor is the extra drain hole in the oil pan. You will need a brass fitting (3/8 x1/8) which you can pick up at ACE, Home Depot or Lowes.

FWIW, my Home Depot store didn't have the brass adapter Spartan mentioned, nor did Auto Zone, but Napa had it. The HD or McEwan kit (www.wallyscycleworld.com) is worth the purchase price, IMO.

Spartan, and many other forum members including myself, have installed the oil temp gauge sending unit in the pan and found a use for the hole in the inner fairing in place of the air temp gauge.

If you don't have one already, buy the Service Manual for your bike and taking the outer fairing off, removing gauges, etc. is very easy and well-explained there.

When I did my oil temp gauge, I also moved the volt meter to the air temp slot and put the oil temp gauge in the former volt meter slot--so the oil pressure and temp would be close to each other.

Also, there may be a difference in the sending unit installation for the '07 because of the 96 motor. I recall reading about mounting it at the oil filter (?) since the 96 doesn't have the oil line the 88 has which is where HD said to mount the sending unit--that was a pita, so folks bought the adapter and mounted the sending unit in the oil pan as shown by Spartan. I bought the adapter at Ace Hardware.

Thanks for the info and picture. I'll do it on my next oil change. Good idea about putting the oil guages together! Does this plug into the existing wiring harness? Al

Unfortunately it doesn't. Install spade connectors on the oil temp wiring harness and plug them into the wiring harness connector used for the Air Temp gauge.
