Default thundermax tuning

Read a post yesterday about "clunking" when hitting the starter. My 07 ultra has done that a few times when hot. I have d &d fatcats, ANBS and run 391 map. So far no changes to the map. I did download the new firmware version that is supposed to help wtih decel popping but so far no difference. I also get a bit of misfire at times, again mostly when hot, if I crack the throttle a bit.

Still think mileage could be better than the 37 I'm getting, but I have read it improves with break-in. I'm a bit timid regarding making changes with my maps. I guess I can always go back to the 391 map. Any advice from those with similar set-ups. Should I leave things along until I get closer to 5K or make a few changes? Step by step would help if recommending changes. Thanks in advance, this forum as been great on my ultra work and in the 2 years i rode a dyna.

I have a tmax on my 07 road glide also have the fat cats...i dont have the big sucker just the stage one setup air cleaner from the dealer. i am also running 391 (i think) and i am not for sure i understand the clunk you are talking about. i am getting right at 39 or 40 mpg now but when i 1st put on the fat cats was getting 35. how many miles have you put on the bike it the d&d and the tmax my mpg startted getting better around 400 miles. on the new pipes. as far as the decel popping i hear zippers was working on it but i did not know they put out a fix yet. i get it a little bit i guess but does not bother me and as lond as it is not hurting the bike i dont care if its there. i dont know if i have miss fire. what is miss fire?

hi I also have 07 ultra with thundermax sounds like your not running in open loop mode, I had decel pop, and hard hitting starter also, I can tell you what worked for me this is gonna be long but here we go. 1st connect computer to your bike and and click link, then go to map editing and click learned fuel adjustment(clp offsets) thiserases any learning the thundermax has done.okkeep the map you have im gonna tell you how to turn your auto tune on, okay go to configure go down to closed loop module settings and click it, now a page comes up with 2 different sides one side is module closed loop settings the other is map closed loop settings, click link read module, click the auto tune on both sides, you will see target afr and a 13 faded on the map side, put a check mark on that to unfade the 13, now do the same on the module side it should read 13 also, do not mess with the idle air control its not necessary, thundermax recommends leaving this alone also, now go to clp offsets on both sides change both 5's to 15 and both 20's to 35. these control how much learning the thundermax can do each time you turn the bike on and ride, this will make it learn faster dont go all the way to 50 its too much 15 and 35 works good, now click write settings to module and that should be it, unlink and turn the key on three times for 30 seconds each time. you should start noticing the decel popping going away soon, it does take some time to learn so be patient, also pull over every so often and turn it off and start it again and ride this helps the module to learn faster. the afr13 is what thundermax recommends thats why it is faded on that page its a safe air fuel ratio, also check your plugs every so often, just to be on the safe side, well let me know how it goes, it works really good for me. wow that was like writing a darn book jeeze lol. oh one more thing the bike will also run cooler because the afr is richer you will like that i sure did. if your not cumfortable with this advise call thundermax they are helpfull.

Poppa, thanks for the input. I thought the tmax was supposed to run in closed loop.

Hey Jeff....you may have downloaded the new Smartlink software, but you haven't updated the firmware yet. The guys at Zippers haven't released it and expect it to be available towards the end of the month. And what Papa Cooter is talking about may work for you...didn't for me. My bike didn't like the across the board AFR settings, I made my adjustments in the individual AFR/TPS pages.

Try this adjustment to your AFR tables from approx. 2000rpm to 3500rpm.....got this from a guy on another forum and I'm using it myself

That's very similar to how mine looks, except I took it up to 14.196 (too high for me). I'll be richening it up a bit.

I haven't changed mine, but did have the starter klunk on start up when it was first installed. I would just open the throttle just a tad before hitting the started button and it would start without trying to kick back at the starter, I guess that's what was going on. Not real happy with my fuel mileage, but that could beinternal engine changes I have done. I'mless than an hour away from Zippers, wonder if they will do a plug in and check things out?
