I just traded I my Roadglide Ultra for a Roadking special. So I’m going from all the bells and whistles to a stripped down bike. Can anyone offer up advice on what a minimalist can do to add a USB port to charge my phone on longer trips?
the Metal Motorcycle mount for phone by Tackform - currently unavailable on the Bezos store, but available elsewhere
I ran the wires along the existing cabling up front, and then under the tank back to the battery. I mounted the usb power port on the left side bar, at the bottom, and then mounted the phone mount opposite, on the right side bar - making it somewhat symmetrical, on both sides of the Road King handlebar cover, and then I ordered some 6 or 9” usb cords to be just long enough to get from the charger port to my phone. If you expand or make the attached pic larger, you should be able to see it and get an idea of how it looked.
By the way, the usb charger port I used also gave a battery charge reading when turned on - the push button on-off switch is right on top, and there is a tethered cover for the port when not in use.

I don't have a picture handy of my actual, but here's a Paint of what I did.
The 12V socket is mounted to the bolt above it, as drawn here. USB adapter plugs into the 12V socket, and the USB cable is drawn blue and curves around as shown, and then through the frame joint slot behind the top of the side cover.
