Bought the bike used last fall with 5900 miles. Has V&H power duals pipe with SE street cannon muffs, SE intake and SE pro street tuner. According to service records, its still on the original oil pump. I do longer trips and don't want to worry about sumping or other early M8 problems so plan on replacing the oil pump and adding the primary vent (small amount of transfer in the 900 miles I rode).
That said, thinking about doing cam change while I'm in there. My riding is in the lower rpm range and am most concerned with low end torque for two-up loaded down touring. I also don't want to have to stop for gas all the time so fuel mileage means a lot to me. I've done a considerable amount of searches for info on cams and have a few I'm considering. Dyno sheets galore, but would like to hear some real world owners reports of fuel mileage. Thanks in advance
As for oil pump 2017 hit or miss and that is that. Had 40,000 on my 2017 when I changed the oil pump. Two others I knew had serious issues with oil pump. It is a time boom. Ho lucky do you feel?
No such thing as a SE PRO tuner .that is that At best it is a lame tuner.
As for CAM with the exhaust you have . It cost you nothing to call and talk to Fuel Moto. They will put the best options in front of you.
S&S 465 has been a solid Torque cam for the 107 no head work needed.
Woods 22X for torque that comes in early and stay through out the operating range. Woods 22XE torques comes on a little latter post good numbers as the RPMs climb. Woods 22XD another to look at.
When when it comes to CAM some are more picky about exhaust than others. Fuel Moto can help you narrow it down. The SE tuner will never get it as good as it should be.

Agree fully with the call to Fuel Moto. I used all Fuel Moto for my twin cam stage one and a Dynovision tuner. Love that tuner and the ability to have more engine info visible. The tuner I have is called the SE Pro Street (41000008C) on the service records. I'm sure you're right about it being lame. The Woods 22X is one I've been looking at. Actual fuel mileage numbers from owners that have had certain setups for a while is maybe not info Fuel Moto will have.
I have an early-build '17 RGS with the original oil pump. HD was still experimenting with the seals and plate and the 8-lobe didn't exist when I installed my 120 kit. The engine has been bulletproof and run hard with zero issues. There are many bikes running the stock pump without issue.
Point being, if your main purpose for all this work is the oil pump, you may want to rethink it. If you really do want to upgrade the cam, then by all means upgrade the oil pump at the same time.
Side note: I see you're from Nebraska. If you decide to go with a new cam and upgrade the inner cam bearing also (as recommended), I have the tools for that. Free to borrow if you live in the Omaha area.

Correct on main purpose of the work will be to change the pump. Aware that there are more bikes without a sumping problem than with it, I just know how my luck goes and want the piece of mind. I do a couple trips a year that get me many miles from home and don't want to have to think about it. So the cam change is the secondary op for me. Appreciate the offer on tools. Was in Omaha last weekend looking at the new bikes thinking about upgrading. I like color and chrome so I'm keeping what I have and doing the upgrades.
That's an impressive dyno run and 43mpg is great. What is the exhaust system used on that run?
I have the Fullsac headpipe, S&S MK45's with Fullsac custom baffles, SE wedge air cleaner, SE 55mm intake manifold, SE Torque cam - tuned by Fullsac with a TTS tuner. There's no doubt that a different cam would provide more, but this is plenty for me and I still get pretty good gas mileage.
Here's the headpipe - very high quality. I installed it nearly a year ago and haven't had any issues with it. BTW, the factory heat shields fit on it perfectly.
