Noticed some excessive movement in my fairing in the last week and figured something was up. Pulled the outer fairing today and lo and behold both all 4 mounts were broken. Two vertical were cracked at the top mount and the two silver horizontal mounts were cracked at the speaker. I'll do my best to fix it myself before I give HD any money. It amazes me that this is an obvious problem over many years and obviously HD has done nothing to fix the problem. 09 FLHX with 26k miles.

2 weeks ago I had my outer cover off and noticed the left vertical bracket broken same place as yours. I called and ordered the repair/strengthening kit which arrived in 3 days. It's an easy and solid fix.

58478-96a and 58479-96a

2008 Ultra. Bad windshield shake at idle started on a ride the other day, just checked and left (clutch) side top is cracked.

HD wants $70 for a new one (one, not the pair). Will remove and look at a patch using an L bracket like above first.

Are most fellas replacing w/ OEM part? or is there a good aftermarket set for less $$ I can look at (to be proactive if any patch fails or the other side fails). Ones on Amazon, reviews are sketchy. I see takeoffs on Ebay but fear a bracket with a lot of miles may break quicker then just buying new.

When I was chasing down a blown gauge fuse issue ( wire rubbed on bracket of inner fairing ) I found that all four of my brackets had broken. I made the two lower ones out of some stronger steel and made small brackets to mount between the main inner fairing bracket and the inner fairing, where it broke off. I see that there are some aftermarket lower brackets out there, but I needed something to do and had the skills & tools to make the lower brackets.

From my experience with other fairing equipped bikes, the HD hardware on this vintage of bike, was way too light. They don't look like much more than 16-18 gauge steel. Not heavy enough for the weight of the fairing & its components and the vibration.

07 FLHTC 112000 miles.. Left broke at about 40000. Own repair, L bracket. Last check at about 90000 but the fairing is not shaking.

post #63 above, I did the L-bracket repair but it looked sketchy and as this also took out the radio (another $$ fix), I opted to buy the new HD part. I found in my '08 fairing the LHS bracket was the old design (less beefy at top) and the RHS one was the 'new' style (more beefy). The older design one is what broke. That it took out the radio (vibration) p###es me off, needless $$.
