Like everyone has said, the results are different. Are yah a layed back rider (soft throttle the bike), are yah a hard rider ( gotta get up to speed as fast as you can), does yah use cruize control. The variables depend on you the rider.
Wife and I went on a dice ride a while back. Needless to say, we filled up before leaving for the ride. The light came up at about 188 miles into it. The next stop was about 20 to 21 miles away. When we filled up, we put 4.5gals of gas in the bike.
If yah want to have fun, and you have the wife on the back. Just point out to the Mrs. that the light has been on for a while. And ask her how she feels about pushing the bike, while you steer it? (LMAO) I've done that a few times.
My 02 Ultra's low fuel light came on with .8 tenths of a gallon left. I always figured on 35 mpg so it works out to 28 miles left to go. The new 07 showed 1/4 tank left today, and it took 4.06 gallons, no light yet. Ya just gotta know your own bike.
The gas gauge on my '06 Ultra has dots on the dial, each one indicating a gallon. I have found that is remarkably accurate. My light comes on right by the last dot, indicating approx a gallon left.
The speedo, however, reads fast. Kuriyakin has a product now for calibrating the electronic speedometer.
