In early February my16 RG CVO Ultra SE started making a new clicking at 2800-3000rpm. 30K on the clock. It would go away after shifting. Took it in as the bike was still under warranty.
Turns out the flywheels were tight from lower rod bearings. Cam chain tensioner also had grooves worn in them. Pretty much getting a rebuild with cylinders, pistons...
The problem is that all the parts are in except one of the grey cylinder assemblies.
Bike has been in since February 18th. Part was promised March 3rd. Now they are saying May 20th for a shipping date. The hold up is the color of the cylinder, grey. Dealer calls it blonde.
They said that they checked the whole US inventory but cannot locate one. I've been checking and can't find one either.
Driving me crazy. Missed out on premium riding season here in Arizona. Had to cancel two planned trips already.
Can't believe that there is not a grey cylinder available anywhere in the states.
Just venting.
Maybe the source of the "blonde" cylinders closed up from COVID, employees left and aren't coming back. The parts buyers, the ones who order from vendors to maintain mfg. requirements, in HD should have seen this shortage. Unless they quit also. 30K on the clock and your cam chain tensioners are grooved piqued my interest, I thought the new style chain and tensioners were an improvement.
There’s been a lot of venting lately about parts non-availability and I don’t see things getting better any time soon. Even if you do find a part, expect it to be 50+ percent more expensive than it was two years ago.

They are.... there is no disputing that, but it doesn't mean bad things can't still happen.... especially anything to do with the crank, run out, etc...
He said had a problem with his lower rod bearing.... that could be a source for numerous issues...
The new style chain and tensioners are different in two ways..
The first is that the pad tension is from a piston, based on oil pressure. The older "spring" style had constant, heavy pressure from the spring
The second is the new style chains are roller chains. They wear into the pads until the roller portion makes contact and then any more wear is much slower. The older style "link" chains were thought by many to be a big contributing factor in the early cam tensioner pad wear... They constantly wear on the pads, cutting into them...

Too bad you couldn't just pick up a black cylinder and have it powder coated to match. Is this warranty(esp) work?
