I will be purchasing a 2008 Street Glide in September and therefore I am a proud soon to be newbie. Is there an advantage to installing true duels, i.e. heat reduction, better sound, etc. Your comments would be appreciated. Also, any brand recommendation?
This is a very tough question. You will likely get a variety of responses based on individual preferences. First, figure out what you really want out of the bike.
If it's performance over looksthenyou'll want a 2 into 1. I recommend D&D FatCats and SuperTrapps. The exhaust note will be a little higher and the engine revs will be more apparent since both cylinders are pushing through the same pipe.
It it's looks over performance then you'll want true duals. I recommend V&H Oval mufflers w/ V&H Dresser Dual header pipes (or D&D True Dual header pipes). Rineharts are very popular but they only accomodate Rinehart mufflers and the end caps have had some QC issues lately. I just installed V&H Big Shot Duals and am very happy - they are a bit loud. Many compare dbs of the Big Shots to Rineharts. True duals will give youdeaper exhaust notewith a lowerfrequency thump. The back of your ride will be symetric with a pipe on each side.
And, true duals will generate less heat on your right leg. I've noticed this change after switching from the FatCats to Big Shot Duals. My wife noticed this also. Although, with a free flowing air breather, open exhaust, and proper tune, the overall temp of the bike will be much less. I guess the 2 into 1 concentrated what heat it had all on the right side. Stands to reason!
If you're interested in a FatCat, I have one for sale. It's ready to ship.
