What kind of cancer? Don't worry, we don't know who you are. Just wondering.

It is called Squamous cell, at the base of my tongue, it is up against my vocal cords and they would like for me to get a feeding tube put in my stomach, but am holding off on that till I need it for sure. I was told that it was caused by a virus, and not herendatiy as both my parents passed from cancer. I was told if they tried to go in and cut it out I would probably loose my tongue and be a disfigurement. I go tomorrow to have a port put in my chest, it also makes it hard to sallow food as feels like there is a ledge in the back of my throat that the food gets hung up on because it is blocking part of it.

The disfigurement does not bother me, but I tried eating without moving my tongue and it ain't easy, not worried about not being able to talk, can always carry pen and paper, besides it will save me on a house phone. I can always text on the cell phone and tell folks, sorry can't talk right now

Well Hawg Runner, you seem to have a good attitude going in, that's huge. Good luck.

Take the trip first, or postpone it longer. Treatment is going to kick your ***, you won't be ready.

I'm 73 and have lost close to 10 friends from cancer. I personally have had melinoma skin cancer and have multiple myeloma.

I think your advice should come from your doctor. I hope he has time to slow down and give you the straight facts on your best options.

Lots of times, there's opinions. That's what your obliviously looking for. No one on here can do that for you on here pulling it out of the air.

Quit often, we can't even do it for ourselves. Trust your doctor if your going to trust him to treat you.

My highschool sweetheart who I almost married if it had not been college separating us too long just walked away ignoring a breast lump. That went horribly wrong.

As mentioned, you have a very positive attitude and that helps a lot. Will keep you in our prayers to beat this thing.

Just see how it goes after each successive treatment if you feel up to the trip. I've done the 4-corners and into Yellowstone a couple of times and it's a great trip. I'm not a Tri Glide person, but am planning on keeping my King. I'm getting up there as well and thinking a sidecar might be a possibility.

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I have been working through bladder cancer and recently had to have surgery to remove some bleeding polyps in my stomach. I'm only 55..lol. Prognosis is good. What have I learned from all this? Keep doing all the things you want to do, until you can't. Don't let this evil disease take over your life or dictate your actions. Don't let the 'have-tos' get in the way of your 'want-tos'. You will feel like you have more control of your life...and that's always a good thing.

Best of luck to you, brother.

OK I had the EXACT same thing 4 years (mine stage 4), but mine not caused by virus (harder to cure). If you have not been told the cancer caused by the virus is 90% curable. I did not get a feeding tube.
First doctor wanted to do surgery at the base of my tongue. Second opinion at Dana Farber Boston, 35 radiation treatments, 15 chemo sessions. Prior to treatment 56, 235lbs, workout hard daily, bench 225 like it was nothing.
Everything was great until radiation #15 and then everything hit me, weakness fatigue etc. You lose your sense of taste and eventually cannot eat. I lost 50lbs. Nights will be sleepless from all the crap that keeps coming out of your throat.
BUT I just had my 3.5-year post treatment, all clear and as the months and years go by the chance of relapse gets slimmer. I am not a doctor but make sure you get multiple opinions on surgery versus heavy radiation.
Let me also report I got back to my old self which took about a year. Gym, strength etc. Your throat will never be the same, always sore, and dry.

If anyone has questions about open heart surgery just ask That was Jan. 5th, 4th heart attack. But I'm back on the bike! Still can't do heavy chest at the gym but almost back to normal.
@Hawg Runner Feel free to message me for any help or info!!!
