Just curious now that the bike is out and on the road, how many have set it up for 2up touring? Does it defat the purpose? I know its geared for the performance side. But when you can only own one bike it has to pull double duty...

I have a 2022 107 RG, not the ST, but....

Aesthetics aside, as it comes, if the seat works for you, it will tour as well as a RG / RGS, with the advantage of the 117 engine, high flow exhaust and the 13" shocks as found on the Ultra/Limited and Road King. I've rented a 2020 Ultra for a week.and the 13" shocks are tolerable, while the 12" shock as found on the RG/RGS leave a lot to be desired. I had the shocks changed out on my bike within 3 weeks of purchase. HD markets this as a performance bagger, but really, it's all about the engine. Anyone remotely serious in taking this bike into performance bagger territory while be replacing the suspension. ST's 13" are notably better than the 12", but lacking compared to just about any aftermarket alternative. I put the HD Torque Cam Stage II setup in my bike, and based on my dyno (95hp / 110ft lbs), and those from Full Moto, the power curves and levels are almost identical to the ST'e stock enginel. It's a fun engine

I sat on one at my local dealer and the seating position was notably different from my 107's seat, that's also on the RGS. IIRC, it was a smidge lower than the RG/RGS and maybe skosh forward. Especially from a touring perspective, I wonder how the AC is in the rain. When I got my bike, I had also test ridden the new Low Rider ST, which shares the 117 engine with the RG ST. As mentioned, it's a fun engine.

With ergo tweaks to suite (bars, windshield, seat), IMHO this bike is a suspension change away from a kick *** touring bike.

Having said that, out of the box, outside of the engine, the Ultra is a better deal for a 2up touring bike, and the 114 ain't no slouch.

if you wanted to set it up for 2 up, then i would definitely go with another model that is already set up for that. otherwise, you're just spending a lot of money for something that you could have gotten cheaper. 3 ci is not worth the cost of admission, imo.

oh, and btw, the gearing is the same.

If you are doing two up touring a lot go with a limited. I was looking at a RG Special last year but my wife said the Limited is already set up to travel, am glad I took her advice and went with the Limited.

Late to this tread, but I bought the RG ST and set it up for 2 up riding. I went from a CVO Ultra to the ST. My wife loves riding this bike much more than the CVO. So do I. It is up to you on the type of bike you want, but for me this turned out to be a great touring bike.
