extreme engine noise!!
Well, Fred. Either they torqued the compensator or something like that (when was this? did they install an IDS kit, maybe?), or they hypnotized you. You said you took it to 'a dealer', am I to understand you got this level of service from one where you did not purchase the bike? If so, that's outstanding! Actually, either way it's good. Congratulations.
Hi Mike and Glen,
Mike, Yes, I, too, would like to see the HD tech sheet. That would be super if someone had a contact that could get a copy.
Glen, Yes, this is a different dealer from where we purchased the bike. We got the best deal, with a trade-in, at the Ukiah dealer in CA. We are full-time RVers, so we move around the country. We are in the Sacramento (CA) area for 3 months and the HD dealer that I went to for this engine noise problem, is within 10 miles of where we are. They didn't want to deal with me on the purchase/trade-in, but the service department treats me very good.
The thing I don't like is not being able to see the tech sheet. The dealer is just not forthcoming in that. The other thing I don't like......my paperwork keeps saying 'customer has transmission noise' and that is not what I am describing to them. I am very clear to say it is coming from the upper part of the engine.
To my knowledge, they didn't install anything. They apologized for not being able to fix something they couldn't see that was wrong even though the difference in the bike is like 'day and night' from when I took it in.

A WAG here....but far from uncommon....check the rubber bushing on the rear muffler mounts....those dman things are a problem and the noise can sound like it is coming from the cylinders....
Finally
