Cool Engine noise?

I have a 06 STBOB and i have read to much on here and i am worried about this bike leaving me walking. I ride everywhere on this bike and take several 2-4 hour weekend trips from home. The motors on these bikes are noisey to start with and then add loud pipes to that. how do no, or what should I listen for, so that i can get some sort of a warning from this thing before it comes apart. Like from he inner bearing and the stator do they make noise and if so what is the best way to determin that there is a problem without taking it apart.
i purchased the bike 1 year ago with 1100 miles on it and it now has 9500 miles on it. I am planning several trips and hate to broke down on the side of the road.

Thanks Chris

You will know when you hear a noise that is not supposed to be there. It is quite obvious usually.

One sure way to know you have a problem is when there is no noise coming from the engine. My engine sounds like a sewing machine on steroids. Just keep good maintenance and it will break down when it is good and ready.

I joined HOG and have the roadside assistance coverage...then just make sure you always carry a cell phone & credit card.

I have HOG, AAA Plus, and a Bible. It's worked so far.

If your IPB goes, it'll sound like a bad throwout bearing in a stick-shift car. Won't leave you stranded, though. I rode home 80 miles after I first heard that whirring sound; sounded the same when I got home. Some guys hear the rotor noise, others just notice the charge light come on. I haven't had that one [yet].

9500 miles is the point at which people start having problems? Really? I consider mine pretty low mileage at 25K and it hasn't given me an ounce of trouble. I expect that something will go wrong somewhere along the line, but that's true of anything mechanical. Mine makes a lot of noises, not all of them consistent, but I figure my truck would sound about like that as well if I rode around in the engine compartment.

My motor sounds like a sewing machine which is normal for HD engines, especially if u run synthetic oil. If you hear knocking instead it ticking comming from the motor then u have a problem. 22,000 miles on mine with absolutely no problems.
