Hope I'm not beating this subject to death. I have an 08 EG with engine noise. I read in another thread someone stating they couldn't believe how much noise his EG made. Are the engines naturally noisy? I have what sounds to me just like a lifter tap. I notice it mostly around 55 to 58 mph. Above 60 it stops. I'm using Mobil 1 20/50 which at next oil change I'm going back to 10/40. Is this noise normal or should I see the dealer?

 

air cooled V twins make alot of noise. No way to tell without hearing your bike, but it is probably just normal. If you are coming off a water cooled bike, you will have alot of sounds to get used too. but they are pretty much normal.

 

I was told at a few dealers that the 96 engine makes more noise than the 88s. I agree with you on the lifer tap, mine too. A ten yr old 88 I have is quiet. Suppose to be the changes in the 96 engine. I really dont know, I wish someone did, I would fix it.

 

Fairing/lowers trap a lot of noise.96s seem to make more then 88s.

 

It sound like it don't like cheap oil replacements. It wants HD synthetic oil.
