Order and install the IDS. Aka cush-drive. Rick dumped his 07 for this reason.
Or am I just missing something you guys know? Just playing here?
what was the temp outside? and was it a consistant noise or only on acceleration? my 07 SG did the same type thing when it was 100 degrees and quick throttle hits..
ride on, ride a lot.

Several people have had various problems with the 07 and keep
getting the B.S. line from the moco "it's normal" (how many are there out there we haven't heard from?)
Soon we will likely hear from the 08 owners about something.
When the hell is everybody going to wakeup that the moco don't give a sh..
about you AFTER you bought the bike?
Only one thing that they will understand is lost profits.
Stop buying their product (oil, filters, goodies off the wall, and most importantly their bikes)
Put a bike off for one year, keep your old one or buy a used one.
Put the $20,000 you would pay for a new one into the one you already own.
For less than 20k you could do new paint, engine and tranny and wheels.
And it doesn't have to come from HD.
Let moco deal with 100k + bikes left over on show room floor for a couple years. Then they might start listening and ACTING on complaints.
A noisy engine or tranny just is NOT acceptable.
Anybody used the Screaming Eagle 6 speed, does it howl and grind and clatter?
This is bleuknights dad.My son posted on 8-14 about the extreme engine noise I was having with my bike. Let me try to clarify what is going on with it. I started complaining the day after I bought the bike that the engine sounded abnormally loud. Of course, I was told this is normal, you are still breaking it in, go 500 miles and it will quiet down. 500 milescame and went and the sound never changed. I took it to a local dealer and complained about the upper end noise. Valve train, rods, pistons knocking sounding like ball bearings in a tin can. This noise occured in 6th gear, 70 mph, 2500 rpm with the cruise control on. It was so loud, I could almost not drown it out with the radio. It, also, occured in 5th gear, 2500 rpm, 65 mph, cruise control on. It never occured onacceleration, or deceleration. Just at cruising speed. I took it to a dealer and they said the tranny is noisy and kept it overnight. At this point, the bike had 700 miles on it. The next day, they called, said they replaced the main shaft bearing. They said'theretainer on the race let go and nicked the inner race'. When I got it back, the noise was the same. Packed the bike for my yearly bike trip with friends, up to Canada and back, the most frustrating, worrysome ride I have ever taken. The noise was so bad, it was hard to enjoy the trip. I was waiting to eat the top of the engine. The temperature range, during this trip, was 40° to 100°. It didn't matter how hot, or cold it was. As soon as the engine temp. got to normal operating temp., the noise started. I am running Royal Purple 20W-50W oil and a good quality 85/140 in the transmission.
I got home on Sunday and took the bike back to the dealer on Monday.I calmly told them I was going to drive the bike through their front window, but my wife, being much more calm than I was, said, "We want it fixed, or our money back." They said, 'give us a chance, we'll look at it again.'.Five hours later, the service mgr. called, said they put their best tech on it, he drove it 43 miles and said he didn't hear anything unusual. We go in to pick it up, they are full of apologies, they have no idea what it was, they wished they had something to fix, but they couldn't find anything wrong. He suggested we put loud pipes on it todrown out the sound.
I asked for paperwork and, again, it said 'Customer complaint. Noisy transmission." I got on the bike, rode 10 feet and knew it sounded different, so I decided to take the freeway home. I could not hear any noise, any pre-ignition noise, valve train noise, rod knocking, lifters slapping, or the ball bearings in the tin can. I was pleasantly surprised. I really think they may have changed the mapping on it and can't tell me, maybe because of EPA issues in California.
One of the techs did tell me there was a notice out from the factory concerning this loud noise in the 07's, but surpriseingly, he couldn't find the tech sheet on it. He said that the mgr. knew where it was and he would show us, but the mgr. acted like he didn't know what the guywas talking about. Hmmmmmmmm.
Well, folks, there is my story. Whatever they did to it, it worked and it is running like it should.
I hope this answers any questions and nobody else has to go through this, although I have heard it is a major problem with the '07's.
